More Than 100 Developers Left Out of L.A. Noire's Credits

L.A. Noire developers are upset that their names aren't included in the game some worked on for seven years.

This collective of more than 100 uncredited developers formed a [a href="http://lanoirecredits.com/about.html"]website[/a] and [a href="http://www.facebook.com/lanoirecreditsDOTcom"]Facebook group[/a] to call attention to this issue - an issue they say is bigger than [a href="http://www.amazon.com/L-Noire-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0HBZW"]L.A. Noire[/a] and developer Team Bondi. The group says the way they have been treated reflects poorly on the Australian game industry and could hurt grassroots efforts by new Aussie developers.

Although some were listed in the game and manual's credits, they were only given a "Special Thanks" rather than listed for their proper role. In response, these uncredited developers [a href="http://lanoirecredits.com/index.html"]listed their names and roles[/a] on their website, which also contains a lengthy message from those involved.

Being unlisted in the credits goes against the Independent Game Developer Association's guidelines which state anyone involved with a game for at least 30 days of a 12-month or greater project must be credited. Those who worked on a game for at least 30 days receive an Additional credit, while those who have been on a project for over seven months receive a Full credit.

"These people devoted their talent, creativity and passion towards the project," the website's About section reads. "And, as is common in the games industry, have not been credited because they were not there during the final month or two of production, or other subjective criteria."

The message goes on to state that many of these developers did not leave Team Bondi by choice. Rather, they were let go of "as art production wound down, and as Quality Assurance work was shifted off-shore to Rockstar's studios."

As the message points out, first-time developers worked on L.A. Noire for many years only to leave with one game on their resume. Not being properly credited in the credits of that one game they worked on certainly isn't going to help their chances of getting hired elsewhere.

"If we can be a precedent for other developers around the world to take an interest in how they wish to be credited and how they should credit their peers," the message concludes. "We believe we have done the right thing."

I feel there's more to this, but I just don't have the evidence to prove it...

I choose doubt!

If I didn't feel that Rockstar's ruthless hours and Super Villain behavior is what make their games so great. I'd complain openly but Rockstar need to bring everything to the brink dammit! Those hat physics aren't going to programme themselves!.

I admire their conviction.
I wish these guys would just acquit it

OT: Sucks for them, I guess. I hope Rockstar listens, and changes this in a patch or something.

Despite there probably being a massive number of people who worked on this game, I'd still be a bit miffed it it was me in the situation. I think receiving appreciation for your work is important.

I never pay any attention to the credits of something unless someone I know is involved in the making of it so I probably am less sympathetic than most would be for something like this.

And it still took me 15 minutes to get through the credits.

Seriously skip option would be nice...

This cements my chances of buying this game to a firm 0%.
I wasn't interested in it anyway, I've heard awful things about the 'Say they're lying' function, and now they hardly credit their developers.

What an arsehole-ish thing to do.

It's not so important to them if gamers get to see their names. The problem is that they aren't getting credit for their work professionally...as in: they won't get hired for their work which isn't being recognized as theirs. If I were involved in LA Noire, I'd sure want that on my resume. If you're not in the credits, you don't get recognized.

I have no sympathy for whatever backlash Team Bondi gets from this. How hard is it to give people the credit that they are due?

Seems like a dickmove from rockstar, would be angrier but they made one of my favourite games ever.

Frankly I'm more concerned that developers are being let go as soon as a project is nearing completion. I really hope this isn't a common occurrence.

Thats something I didn't really think of. Yeah I'd be pretty pissed in that respect.
