Jail Time for Driver in Brian R. Wood Collision

Two women who were involved in an automobile wreck that killed Company of Heroes designer Brian R. Wood have been sentenced to prison.

In September 2010 we reported [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/103259-Company-of-Heroes-Designer-Killed-in-Crash] the tragic news that Brian R. Wood, a designer at Company of Heroes studio Relic Entertainment, had been killed after his SUV collided head-on with a vehicle being driven by 21-year-old Jordyn Weichert. Weichert's vehicle went out of control and crossed into Wood's lane when she attempted to remove her sweater while passenger Samantha Bowling held the wheel; two other passengers in that vehicle were also killed but Wood's pregnant wife and their unborn child survived. Police said Weichert was believed to have been under the influence of drugs.

A jury convicted Weichert of multiple felony charges last month and on Friday she was sentenced to eight years in prison, roughly six months short of the maximum allowed by Washington state sentencing guidelines. The passenger, Bowling, had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicular homicide and, in an unrelated matter, to one count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, and agreed to testify at Weichert's trial. As part of her plea, she agreed to accept a sentence "above the standard range" and was given five years.

Wood's wife, Erin, who has since given birth to their daughter, spoke at the sentencing hearing. "The first thought when I wake up in the morning is, 'he's gone'," she told the judge, "and the last thought before I fall asleep is the same."

Good. Their sheer stupidity caused a lot of tragedy and this is a lesson I hope others will learn from, but I fear they will not. If drugs were a part of this, I hope that the women get the help they need while in prison. Otherwise it'll just add to the waste of a situation.

Feel awful for Erin wood and her child. She'll never get to know her dad.

Retarded drivers are found all over the world, but that doesn't take away that this is a really ridiculous case of stupidity. I am quite glad that those two got send to prison for their actions. Three people dead because someone wanted to take off a sweater while driving.

Erin Wood has my sympathy through this. And I feel sorry for the child involved.

All because a woman wanted to take off her sweater... So sad.

I just can't find words to describe my feelings after reading this. So many people died just because she couldn't wait to take her sweater off.

I feel bad for both the wife and child and the two idiots, the wife and child for obvious reasons, the two idiots because they'll have to live with having done this for the rest of their existence.

Not just because she wanted to take off her sweater, also she and the stupid ***** in the passenger seat, and the other two passengers in the back that were also killed were all stoned out of their fucking minds.

Am I the only one who never finds these sentences to be long enough? Why is being under the influence and hitting and killing someone with your car any different than being under the influence and then shooting someone in the face?

8 years isn't nearly enough, we've had a nice little string of drunk driving fatalities here in Washington in the last couple of years and every fucking one of the dirtbags that was driving drunk has gotten of light as far as I'm concerned.

I really hope these murderers get to *stay* in jail for that time.
Not that they can kill 3 people when high and get out on "good behaviour" after less than half the time because the jail is overflowing and they need the space. :(

A lot of people only do get only about 5 to 10 years in prison for shooting and killing someone and often get paroled early in about 3 years depending on the circumstance. you just dont hear about all of the killings on the news.

The difference between a [a href="http://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/news/rich_hit_and_run_killer_buys_his_way_out_of_jail_1_2757948"] poor person's[/a] justice and a rich one's. Real nice.

I'm not having a go at this story, this is justice for a preventable tragedy. It's just the difference sickens me.

Spleen vent over.

My condolences to Erin Wood and his family and friends.

Somehow I don't feel justice has been served, but I don't think anything can make up for the loss of a father due to sheer stupidity and negligence.

They need to revamp their laws I mean this is murdering three, almost 5, people. Do that with a knife and you are looking at 75-125 years.

Journalists always save quotes like that to round out a sad story :(
