Kojima Admits Eventual Metal Gear Solid 4 Sequel

Hideo Kojima seems resigned to the fact that he'll "eventually" have to make Metal Gear Solid 5.

Despite the fact that <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Patriots-Playstation-3/dp/B000FQ2D5E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321905615&sr=8-1>Metal Gear Solid 4 seemed to contain a definite end to the main storyline of Solid Snake, fans haven't been too quiet about their hopes for a sequel. Now, Hideo Kojima has admitted that he'll probably have to make that sequel, eventually, but he has no idea what the game will contain.

Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine Kojima explained that, yes, the game will probably happen, but his involvement won't be nearly as hands-on as it has been in the past:

"I think we'll probably have to make it [a sequel to MGS4] at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea."

"As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won't be as much as it was with MGS1 - maybe I can do just one stage!"

"For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on - that level I can't do again."

At the moment, Kojima is working on a mystery title that's only known as Project Ogre. However, he's also got Metal Gear Solid Rising in the works, which he's set to reveal more information about <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114260-Spike-Debuts-Cruel-Metal-Gear-Solid-Rising-Ad>at the Spike Video Game Awards next month.

The Escapist sure loves that picture. Now every time I think of Kojima, I picture a grown man riding a duck.

Anyway, is he going to do a sequel simply because the fans are asking for it? if that's the sole reason, I say nay. MGS4 was the end of it. That's it. We all gotta accept that. I prefer to see a good saga end with a blast than being forgotten after so many requested sequels.

Jak and Daxter did this: They were amazing, the games were fun, the story concluded after Jak 3 and everything was good. Then Jak X came around...alright, I suppose it's okay. Then The Lost Frontier happened...and it al went down the drain. Now where's Jak? Jak who?

I just think Snake and MGS overall is too much of an awesome and legendary saga to be messed around like this. But hey, if he's doing this for some reason, then more power to him. But if he's just trying to please fans, then forget it. It's cool that people like him listen to people like us, but learn to listen carefully. If we're complaining about a glitchy game, go for it. Listen away. But something like this? I just dunno...

We fans just don't know what we want.

The MGS games can do no wrong in my eyes. And I've had a massive craving for some new MGS so this is very awesome news.

I hope Hideo changes his mind though and goes really hands-on I'd love to see how far they could go this time considering how brilliantly designed MGS4 was.

Meh, Kojima seems to love saying "this will be the last game" just so he can get QQing about it and then "begrudingly" come around to making another Metal Gear game. I'd think people would have caught on by now.

Honestly I think it's a hype tactic, intended to get people to beg him to do it, and be as involved as possible. The guy knows what his fame and fortune derives from, and I doubt he ever had any intention of doing anything but milking the franchise as long as he could when he realized it was going to sell despite his pretensions otherwise.

To be blunt, as a number of people have gone on about, the whole Metal Gear plotline has a few things hanging or never fully explained. Of course anything that obtuse and involuted is going tb always that that problem... and I think it was created that way for a reason, so he could spin out as many games as he wanted with minimal effort and planning once the lore was established, and then use any contridictions or unexplained elements to justify yet more games sequels, prequels, spin offs, etc... in the beginning that might not have been true but I think it has been for a while now.

Truthfully I'd be very surprised if he doesn't have storyboards and at least some rudimentary work going on right now despite the current project.

That said, as long as he doesn't transform it into a straightforward shooter at least it provides some variation on the market... even if that variation is basically a FMV movie with occasional interactive stealth sections. :)

Huh...

Kojima, why haven't you learned?

People will always want another Metal Gear.

Stop listening.

You have twice tried to make the best possible ending to the series.

Good things always NEED to end, or they will STOP being good things.

Well that sounds interesting. I am not sure if I would want an actual sequal to MGS4 or more spin off games.
This. I mean what about more games set in the same universe? There should really be plenty happening around the actual Metal Gear Solid games considering the amount of lore the team wrote...

I think theres more that could be done within the series but Snake's story is over, trying to make a direct sequel would raise a lot of story issues and they can't pull a mgs 3 every game. The series could easily continue but if it does they really need to start with a new story and characters before the series starts to degrade.

I really like the MGS games, so if he actually want to make one then I'm fine with that but I'm a bit afraid that it will suck.
Better let a good series end in a good way that turn it into a bad series.

It would be nice that the 5th one had as much gameplay as Snake Eater had while retaining the same level of story telling.

Pretty much this. But I do hope it'll be done as well as the others. At this point it is hard for me to imagine where it'll go from now as far as sequels go. Prequels? Endless opportunity.

Still would cheer Hideo on no mater what though, I love his games... And glasses.

Like, creepily so too. I love those glasses. <3

"fans stockholders haven't been too quiet about their hopes for a sequel."

Fixed.

I'd rather have something new to Konami's lineup than MGS.

I think they should make one about The Boss, I mean they made Snake Eater, Portable Ops and Peace Walker to show why Big Boss was badass but I wanna know how badass The Boss was.

Then again it may destroy some of the mystery behind the character, but to be fair I would like to see a game where you play as her.

I'd only really like a full on remake of the original metal gear games. I really don't think we need any more prequels.

Hell if Kojima decided to do a sequel with Snake and have him take some special nanomachines that cure his old age I'd roll with it. I mean MGS4 was 'explain every impossible plot point with nanomachines' the game! I guess that's part of the fun of MGS.

On one hand I love MGS so more games with snake would be awesome (I hate raiden no idea why just hate him) but on the other hand I kind of liked MGS4 drawing a line under the saga.
