Sony Teases a New God of War

A mysterious image and date may herald the return of Kratos.

Sony has posted a giant image to its official Facebook page that boldly asks, "Will vengeance bring redemption?" Directly beneath, is a date: 04.19.12, presumably when the community will receive something a bit more detailed than an oversized banner that looks like someone spilled coffee on your telescope while you were busy staring into the sun.

The words themselves don't intrinsically point toward everyone's favorite pugnacious Spartan deity, but an examination of the full URL seems to proffer a slight clue at what may follow. The center chunk of Sony's image is hosted here [https://www.facebook.com/app_full_proxy.php?app=23744633048&v=1&size=o&cksum=221666d9c6a597d89217c848ce1e0fb1&src=http%3A%2F%2Fwebassets.scea.com%2Fpscomauth%2Fgroups%2Fpublic%2Fdocuments%2Fwebasset%2Ffbml%2Fgowa_fb%2F2.png] and, as those of you who were always finding Waldo faster than your friends may have already noticed, the back half of the lengthy URL contains the following evidence: "gowa_fb." "God of War Announcement_Facebook," anyone?

If a God of War 4 is to be announced next week, it shouldn't be too shocking. After all, Sony Santa Monica's studio head, John Hight, previously said that God of War 3 was merely the end of a trilogy, not of the series itself. Still, if you're a fan of the franchise, the beginning of a new chapter could be exciting news. Perhaps we'll even see the IP follow a new character or, gasp, format. And let's not forget the smattering of job postings that have pointed at multiplayer inclusion this time around. Either way, it looks like we'll know next Thursday.

Is there even anything left to kill in that universe?
Ninja'd! Really, though, I get the feeling that Kratos devasted everything there was left to devastate in number 3. What next? Is he going to take on the Norse gods, or are we going to have to move him to an alien planet so he can royally vicerate of their dieties?

Whatever, just wash your hands.
If they were smart you would be just playing some dude who was trying to kill Kratos for being a sack of crap.

I had fun with the boss fights and the spectacle for the three games we have so far...but I'm done. The godawful platforming and lack of camera control made me rage at the game far too much (seriously, why would you ever change the camera angle mid-jump while platforming around spinning blades and a pit of death!?!?).

LETS KILL JESUS!

O, wait, that's a bit far into the future...

Erm...

LETS KILL HORUS!
I mean, he's basically Jesus but came first and looks WAY cooler!

Clearly Kratos were killing the wrong gods the entire time, cause the real gods live on the moon.

OT: Eh, I enjoyed the games, but as mentioned previously, what's left to kill?

A God of War taking place after the events of God of War 3 would be dumb Most of the titans: dead. Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon: dead. There's little left to kill and nothing left to kill could be more grand than what happened in GoW 1-3.

Even if Kratos was the literal villain of the game and you played someone else, it would be dumb. Kratos is very much dead. As dead as you can be without Hades being around anyway.

They could do something I guess, but "Kratos kills everything in Greek mythology" should be over with by now. And if that's not what this game is going to be, why be God of War in the first place.I know there's obvious business reasons for it, but I'd like to think "from the studio that brought you God of War" would be a stronger draw than "it's God of War... Again!"

Except the end of GoW3 shows a blood trail from where Kratos ran himself through to the edge of a cliff so basically not even he can kill himself.

Ehhh...Santa Monica Studios, please prove me wrong.

I can't think of a single way GoW4 would be a good game and everyone else above me already said why. Don't get me wrong: I love GoW. I own all GoW titles for the PS3. But I DON'T want to see this turn into another AC where we change protagonists or even time periods. Again, we have AC for that.

But yeah, not so surprised about GoW4. I'm fairly certain The Tester 3's winner (Wilson) will be working on it too. They hinted at it for the longest time.

Also...
"Developer Stig Asmussen has revealed that David Jaffe intended for Kratos to take on the Norse and Egyptian Mythology gods after having defeated Zeus, and the other Greek gods. Whether this story is yet to unfold, remains to be seen."

...From the GoW wiki. So...there's that.

I have two ideas about where this could go (It will be God of War IV that will be announced next week...it better be!).

1. Kratos fights Chaos itself. In the end there can only be Chaos and he has to fight Chaos to allow humanity to recover from the destruction of Olympus.

2. He fights the Norse or Egyptian gods who are trying to muscle their way into Greece to take over after the destruction of Olympus.

3. It's an entitrely different character in an entirely different uiniverse. Maybe the games will take an anthology approach.

I just want more God of War. I've been waiting anxiously for an announcement for months. The wait had better be over!

This. He's died so many times and come back. I don't see why he couldn't survive his wounds at the end of God of War III.

Yes and that post-credits scene to make his fate more ambiguous was stupid then too. Well not stupid necessarily, but Kratos being alive would be stupid

*clears throat*

Though I see it being a Co-op possible game, with the other player being Jesus and they both take down countless Romans.

Could we see a new character in a new mythology, hopefully not slaughtering all of their pantheon?

Kratos is immortal and founds the Illuminate.

This leads into Assassins Creed as a revelation is made that that Kratos is really...
THE BIG BAD...of the whole series!

Ya but he gets killed in every single game.

GOW - Killed by Ares once and two a <color=blue>failed attempted suicide.

GOW2 - Killed by Zeus

GOW3 - Killed by somebody, ran himself threw and then we have the <color=blue>blood trail to Kratos`s favorite suicide cliff.
Yes, yes I get it guys. There's no reason Kratos has to stay dead. There's also no reason at this point in the his story arc that he shouldn't. (bolded/blue parts are tl;dr version of below)

GoW1: Killed by Ares while on a quest to kill Ares. Climbs out of Hades so he can finish killing Ares.
Gow1-part 2: Once finished with his quest to kill Ares, he attempts suicide after realizing what kind of monster he has become. (important part of his character despite being shit on in 2+3.) Gods don't let him kill himself, force him to become the new God of War.

GoW2: Bitter about being forced to hang around as a god, Kratos abuses his powers to favor his old people. Killed by Zeus because of this. Kratos once again gets out of Hades and goes in brutal revenge quest to kill Zeus.

GoW3: Brutal revenge quest to kill Zeus successful. The three most powerful (and several others) gods are dead. Most, if not all, of the titans are dead. Kratos kills himself to release magic to save what's left of the world. Drags himself to the very cliff he wanted to die off after the first game. With no more revenge to keep himself going and no gods to stop him, he finally gets to die like he wanted to since the end of the first game.

That is why he should stay dead. He's wanted to be dead since the end of the first game. Kratos getting up again, getting some new blades-on-chains and going on some different quest would be stupid.
