Firefight DLC Bolsters Your Mass Effect 3 Arsenal

A new DLC pack adds seven new weapons to Shepard's armory in single-player.

Ever felt that the arsenal in Mass Effect 3's story was a bit lean? If so, you'll be pleased to know that BioWare has seen fit to give you a handful of the game's multiplayer-only weapons to use in the single-player campaign - for a price.

The Firefight DLC pack unlocks a selection of medium to long range weapons for Commander Shepard and crew: the Indra and Kyrsae sniper rifles, Reegar Carbine, Harrier battle rifle, and Geth SMG. A couple of new weapons have been thrown in too, including the Blood Pack Punisher SMG and Adas Anti-Synthetic rifle. Gamers hoping for some quick and easy weapon unlocks in multiplayer are out of luck - they're only available for use the single-player campaign. If you're keen on deploying some new ordnance for The Shep, you can do so for an extra $2 or 160 MS points.

It may seem like a stretch to ask players to pay for what appears to be pre-existing assets, but BioWare is offering the DLC pack due to popular demand to have the multiplayer-only weapons in the single-player game. Furthermore, the inclusion of "two amazing new guns never before seen anywhere else, plus one ultra-rare weapon only available previously as a limited promotional item" should entice some Mass Effect fans out there.

Bioware/EA: Did you think ME3 was too hard? Did you really think that we would not remove content from the main game? Then come and buy our inexpensive non-cheat cheat weaponry!

Guaranteed not to kill the starchild.

And so the first paid DLC arrives. (Excluding Javik)
Wonder how much rage there will be?

The Indra is pretty meh considering the games armor mechanics and I already have it when Alienware was giving them away for sign ups. Kyrsae just got nerfed pretty hard although it was hard to argue why not considering how brutally hard it hit with those explosive rounds even without being able to get headshots. The Reegar, much like the family its named after, is amazing if you can close the distance to the target and basically melt entire groups in a single slip. The Harrier is pretty much the fully automatic assault rifle that makes that type of weapon bearable. The GPSMG has all the power of a super soaker and is only really gonna be good if you run fully upgraded ammo powers which is redundant since doing that makes any weapon much better and the 2 new weapons if popular enough will probably make an appearance in MP packs.

I don't really see the issue with charging for these considering they sold armor/weapon packs for ME2 and even though you do have the weapons data, assuming you DL'd the MP packs, they were completely free if you bought your MP packs with in game credits vice dropping real money. At the end of the day its for those who still enjoy the single player portion and want more. Personally I have zero interest in more SP stuff considering the bad taste left in my mouth from the ending and anything added after the fact just feels like an attempt to fill in some of the massive holes created by it but I already paid for the game so I'll keep taking the free MP DLC.

Weapon packs?

Can I have the bloody N7 classes instead please?

The weird thing with the multiplayer weapons is that they're either great, or terrible.

It's not very often you come across an 'average' weapon :D

Missed opportunity to use Willem Dafoe's "There was a FIREFIGHT!" clip from The Boondock Saints.

2 bucks to make guns that you used in multiplayer available in single player?
Meh. Low-price, but still a ripoff.

I remember when Bioware released the Special Edition and pre-order bonus items for Baldur's Gate 2 for free. Wasn't essential or important, but it was nice.

Ooh, new DLC! For SINGLE PLAYER! Yay--wait. It's just weapons? For the single player? Pass. I got the Black Widow and the Wraith. Nothing in that game stands a chance against me now. Contact me when Leviathan comes out and then I'll give you some money.

Granted, I haven't played ME3 multiplayer since...I think May. Since shortly after whichever DLC pack added the Cerberus classes.

Anyways, you say they nerfed the Krysae? Well my experience with the gun was that it was essentially ME 3's noob-tube. You say it was brutally difficult to hit people with it...well the good thing is that you didn't HAVE to hit people with it. I utterly ignored it's variable zoom scope, finding it much better to just eye-ball it with the standard zoom. If the bullet got anywhere near the target it would explode, killing most weaker enemies in one shot (hence my calling it a noob-tube...you didn't have to aim). While I can easily pull off a double kill with one shot from the Javelin, getting a triple or even quadruple kill was pretty damn easy with the Krysae.

As for the Geth SMG, really that's the only fully automatic weapon that I liked. Heat Sink + Extended Clip = nearly never-ending clip. And if you're using a soldier with Adreniline Rush, it automatically reloads mid-clip if you use that ability, allowing your clip to last even longer. I called it the Zerg SMG because that's essentially what you're doing: overwhelming the target with the shear number of dead-on accurate, rapid-fire bullets. Quite frankly - at least the last time I played - giving that gun to my Geth Engineer turned him into a bonified god of death and destruction, a truly unstoppable force with no immoveable objects in sight. If you ask me, the Geth SMG is what the Geth Plasma Rifle was SUPPOSED to be, instead the pulse rifle turned out to be an automatic spit-wad cannon.

But like I said, I haven't played ME 3 in a while now. Though I do specifically remember telling my friends that it'd be a good idea for them to import some of the multiplayer only guns into the single player...as such, when I get the urge to start up a new campaign, I'll likely be getting this weapon pack first.

Ehhh. I'm not buying a weapon pack. The actual single-player story content I'll get for sure, but not a couple weapons.

I honestly had a couple dollars on my account, and decided to buy the cheap packs for ME2. I gotta say, the Kestral armor and Mattock was worth the $2.

Though, Bioware... I *will* pay for the N7 promotional weapons... Release those please...

Because the most important thing about Mass Effect is the diversity and lethality of the guns featured therein- right?

IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A STORY DRIVEN SINGLE PLAYER RPG, NOT A BRAINLESS SHOOTY MULTIPLAYER GAME.

Christ on sale it's like if they released an RTS and then spent seven months releasing custom skins for your peons at 1.99 a pop.

I'm just glad we finally got SOMETHING for single player. No amount of new characters or weapons will help the multiplayer until we get a new game mode or two.

I've always thought they should have an actuall mission-based gamemode with a few linear maps. Your squad starts at the drop site and you have to fight your way through various rooms and such - just like in Single Player - get to a certain point to hack the computer/plant the bomb/do whatever, then fight your way back out through even more difficcult firefights. Bronze has you go in a short distance, Silver has you go in half-way, Gold makes you go through the entire level and make it back out.

:3 I think that'd be the game mode that got me playing again.

This is different from your example. The combat in the game was enjoyable and adding more weapons gives you more levels of customization. They've also announced the new story dlc named "Leviathan" so they're defiantly focusing on expanding the story, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I picked it up. I like being able to throw some variety into what my squad is packing for different scenarios and not leave them holding the same guns all the time. Changing things up based on situation can be a part of engaging the story, if you put some mental effort into it. Then again, upgrading them is draining my bank account, so they better carry over on New Game + next time so I can finish buying the Spectre store weapons.
