Capcom, Valve Reveal Resident Evil/Left 4 Dead Crossover

Don't get too excited; this "crossover" isn't nearly as impressive as you'd hope.

A few minutes ago an email appeared in my inbox. It's subject line read, "Capcom and Valve Announce Resident Evil 6 X Left 4 Dead 2 Crossover Project." My eyes grew wide at those words, and I frantically clicked through to read the text. 30 seconds later I was a whole lot less excited.

Yes, Capcom and Valve have joined forces for a crossover between Resident Evil 6 and Left 4 Dead 2. Nothing goes better with zombies than more zombies, right? Unfortunately, this project is not a new game in either series, or even a special off-shoot combining the two similar properties. Instead, the announcement heralds the arrival of Resident Evil characters in Left 4 Dead 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 characters in the upcoming PC version of Resident Evil 6. Have a look at Capcom's official description:

This crossover project between two of the interactive entertainment industry's most respected publishers will see characters from Left 4 Dead 2 featured exclusively in the forthcoming PC version of Resident Evil 6, while enemies from Resident Evil 6 will invade the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2.

Though not as awesome as it initially seems, those of you with particular affection for these two titles will be happy to hear that these additions are completely gratis. If you own Left 4 Dead 2 or purchase the PC iteration of Resident Evil 6, you won't need spend any extra cash to see these bonus characters in action.

As far as which characters will be making the jump to a different gaming universe, the roster is actually quite fleshed out. According to Capcom, Left 4 Dead 2's quartet of heroes (Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle) will make playable cameos in Resident Evil 6's PC-exclusive "The Mercenaries No Mercy" gameplay mode. Each "will have a special customized weapon load-out created just for use in Resident Evil 6." Further, two of Left 4 Dead 2's special infected will make appearances as enemies in this mode: The Witch and the Mini Tank.

On the Valve side, Left 4 Dead 2 will see three enemies -- the Lepotitsa, Napad and Ogroman -- from Resident Evil 6 join the legions of shambling horrors attempting to kill players.

There's currently no official release date for these content additions, but we expect them soon. Most likely they'll appear alongside the retail debut of Resident Evil 6's PC port, which hits shelves on March 22.

It's not exciting, but it is quite a neat little idea. Especially as Left 4 Dead doesn't take itself entirely seriously anyway.

So, I could be fighting Lickers instead of smokers?
I guess that's cool.

Well that headline was a touch misleading.

Now I'm kinda disappointed.

Edit: inb4 all the Resident Evil 6 hate that seems to pile on as if it's the worst game ever made. It's a decent game, not great, barely good, but decent and enjoyable. 4 set the bar to unattainable goals for todays Capcom.

And it's better than 5.

probably Hunters with both Pounce and Tongue-trap and a new model
Well whatever they are doing that would be quite the interesting switch from normal enemy types.

Look at the names of the monsters again...None of them are Lickers sadly!

On topic: This sounds like a great thing...till you see that they're all Resi 6 monsters appearing in the game and not great classics like aforementioned Lickers, classic T-Cell Zombies or, god forbid, Nemesis! A disappointment, though is should be interesting to see how they play in L4D2!

I'm disappointed that Valve would have anything to do with capcom. I absolutely loath capcom and think they are one of the worst things in the video game industry, right alongside EA.

Does this mean whenever a Jockey grabs me I have to run through a series of QTEs to shake him off? Or perhaps I can't enter the safehouse unless all 3 other characters are right up against it pressing a button and shouting for me to come help shove the door closed.

I was hoping for a Licker skin for the Hunter, a Tyrant (or Nemesis) skin for the Tank or playing as Leon, Chris, Claire and Jill (nerdgasm), I haven't played RE6, but the annonced roster of enemies seems kinda bland.

I wouldn't associate myself with Capcom, Valve. They are incompetent enought to destroy the L4D series even with this seemingly harmless promotion. Outrageous prices, locked contents and the worst of all...typos.

"Hey, let's take our zombie-sequel that is crap and mix it with Valves zombie-sequel that is crap"

May I ask what they were smoking? Because if you think that is a good idea, you NEED to be on some serious stuff.

Don't worry, Valve already managed to destroy the L4D series by releasing L4D2... Capcom can't do any more damage than themselves...

With steam workshop, aren't there already fan made resident evil characters in L4D 1/2? I know my survivors are currently sporting pony models.

I see that L4D2 drama has left some bitterness in some fans. Buy the game in the next sale for 5 bucks and you can get over it like everybody else

How would an Ogroman work in LFD? Sure I can see the Lepotitsa, and Napad working. Lepotitsa being something like a reskinned smoker, and the Napad being something like a charger, but nothing in LFD is anything like an Ogroman.
