26 year later: The new season of Twin Peaks.

I liked Alan Wake (decided to try replaying it, but on Nightmare) and Deadly Premonition (redownloaded it, but holding off trying to get back into it yet). So perhaps Twin Peaks is up my alley, even started the first episode, but I dunno... I know who the killer is, and wonder if my enjoyment will be hampered by that, or if I will even enjoy the show regardless. Wake and Deadly Premonition have the advantage of being video games, which I find more engaging than a TV show.

I imagine a show like Twin Peaks to take its time getting into things, which I can respect, but I dont know if my attention will hold long enough.

No, not quite like that. The original was just cancelled before it could wrap up its plot threads and ended on basically a cliffhanger. However, by some strange coincidence it also had the line "I'll see you again in 25 years" so now is actually a pretty appropriate time to pick it up again.

Pretty much everything was answered by the end of season two (for good or bad) regarding the show's many mysteries. It just so happened that the show was cancelled just as it was really getting into its own mythology, leaving open countless posibilities that appeared to be ultimately wasted. Kind of like what happened to Carnivale.

Did you hear that Zach? Twin Peaks is getting a new season!

Directed by David Lynch in 1990-1991, it followed the investigation of a young woman in a small town. Kyle MacLachlan did a great job as Special Agent Dale Cooper. He evoked such confidence and intelligence, with just a hint of mystique. It's an image of the FBI that has stayed with me all these years, it even helped inspire me to join the bureau. The show ended on a cliff hanger though, I've always wondered what really happened in that lodge. I know Zach, once this case is over we should watch the new season and find out together.

Zach, is there something here that you want to check out? We're supposed to go through Anna Graham's file at the Sheriff's office, but if you want to act on a hunch, then I'm with you.

I'm so excited that this has been revived. And I'm glad that the entire original series is on Now Tv. I get to binge watch it again!

I get that they're trying make out he's been at the black lodge for 25 years and not "with the real world" but stretching this act over 3 (4 or more?) episodes is taking the biscuit. He doesn't need his memory back but his quirky personality making a return would make things better

Welp, it was either gonna be Diane or Audrey and Audrey's actress already stated not having a large role in the new show.

Still, episode 6 probably was the best one since the pilot. It felt very Fire Walk With Me during all the scenes set in Twin Peaks. Used some of the same locations too if I'm not mistaken.Also, the dwarf murdering that lady with an ice pick while that corny hip hop beat was playing had me laughing out loud.

Also, I still find Mr. Bean Cooper entertaining. Especially now that they've actually started playing him for drama.

Welp, it was either gonna be Diane or Audrey and Audrey's actress already stated not having a large role in the new show.

It was more about guessing Diane AND that she'd be played by Laura Dern. It's the kind of fancasting that never happens to me.
The dwarf scenes were hysterical. Is "midget" frowned upon now? Cooper uses that word to describe The Man from Another Place.

Finding Laura's missing pages at the sheriff's (complete with Annie's rescue message), Ben Horne getting Coop's hotel room keys (can they track him down that way?) and Diane confirming more or less definitely for Gordon and Albert that there's an Evil Coop out there. Not sure how long they're going to keep Good Coop in catatonia though. Do you think that'll last the whole show or is he going to get back on track before that?

Your guess is as good as mine, obviously, but I'm gonna say he's not gonna come to his senses until at least the last four episodes, if not until the very last one. I might very well be completely wrong about this but they're obviously building up Coopers return as this big, cathartic moment and I think this means they'll do everything to sustain that tension for as long as they can and push it to the breaking point. My prediction is that in the last few episodes Cooper will get his memories back and return to Twin Peaks for a last confrontation with his doppelg?nger. And, for an even more specific prediction, I think that confrontation might end with him sacrificing himself to banish evil Coop. Again, I might be wrong, maybe that would be too predictable and Lynch is gonna subvert everyones expectations but it's a possibility at least.

As cynical an approach as Lynch sometimes takes to storytelling I genuinely think he's too fond of Cooper as a character to leave him like that for the rest of his life. It's pretty clear that the real Coop is still somewhere in there and that Mike is trying to make him snap out of it. I'm gonna say it'll have something to do with him meeting someone he recognizes. Could be Diane, Gordon, Albert or, hell, they might be building up to having him meet Harry Truman on his deathbed.

That's just me throwing out some theories but considering the way the narrative is progressing so far I could see these things happen.

I too thought maybe they'd sneak in Harry Truman at the last moment, despite Michael Ontkean's retirement and not showing up in the cast list. I started thinking that when his brother called him in the last episode and gave that "beat this thing" line. Killing Harry off like that would be beneath Lynch, I hope. And what would be the point? Either kill him off between seasons because the actor's not returning or don't even bring him up. Toying with our expectations about his health like that... even if he gets better in another phone call, what would be the point of continuing this charade of "he's totally on the other side of the line" and "oh, you just missed him"?

As for what snaps Cooper out of "Dougie Jones", I haven't got a clue. I thought it would be coffee at first. Now I don't know. If I were writing this as a fanfic it would be Audrey or Harry. Gordon and Diane make sense too. Or something regarding Laura. So far I think the show has been very good to its fans, the way it's going about with Where Is Everybody Now and all, so I have reasonable hope that the ending will do some justice to the character.

He's the arm. And he sounds like this: whoop whoop whoop.

Seriously though: have you seen the old show? He was the dwarf. In case you haven't seen the old show: there was a dwarf in it. In the movie it turned out that he was the arm of the spirit named Mike (you know, the one who's missing an arm) that he cut off after he had a revelation because it made him do terrible things. And then it became its own living entity. Again, a dwarf in a red suit. He turned into a tree with a brain because, uh... well, I don't know. The real life reason is probably because the actor who used to play him is now a literal Nazi who accuses Lynch of raping his own daughter. Why he transformed into a tree in universe I can't tell you but obviously the spirits of the black lodge are pretty incomprehensible creature.

I never watched the series until my brother showed me a handful of episodes fairly recently.

I remember the Dwarf, but did not fully comprehend that he is supposed to be the Tree thing.

So yeah I am only midly interested in the show but only until its finished and on Netflix because I can only afford HBO and can't sub to Showcase was it?

Is it supposed to be a sycamore tree? Like the one mentioned in the song in the finale of season two (and the movie).


In that same episode the dwarf tells Cooper "When you see me again, it won't be me". I don't know if that's just a stroke of awesome luck that would allow for the dwarf to be replaced in-universe or it was always meant to be that way. I also don't know if Michael J. Anderson went bonkers before or after Lynch turned him down for the revival.

Also I heard Persona's Velvet Room is inspired by Twin Peaks. I also know Lynch voiced the bartender in The Cleveland Show.
