Michael Biehn: Dev Already Has Blood Dragon Sequel In Mind

Blood Dragon's lead voice actor says the sales of the game have exceeded five times initial expectations.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123646-Blood-Dragon-Launch-Trailer-Puts-Its-Balls-To-the-Wall] is an amazing game that takes the best parts of the Far Cry 3 engine and covers them with a hearty layer of parody, cheesiness, and of course, neon. The game came out of no-where and has taken the gaming world by storm, with sales exceeding up to five times Ubisoft's initial sales expectations, according to lead voice actor Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens). The sales were so impressive, says Biehn, that creative director Dean Evans already has a sequel in mind.

"Dean was with me on the phone last night. He was pretty jacked up. He was going into a meeting today, to you know... I think he wants to turn it into some sort of franchise. He's got a sequel in mind."

Biehn, who was cautiously optimistic of the project when first approached by Evans, says he has experienced a lot of unexpected fame from the game. He was shocked to find that people would come up to him on the street to ask about Blood Dragon. He says that Evans was so enthusiastic about the project that he had a hard time turning him down.

When asked if this could spark a career in videogame voice acting for the iconic action hero, Biehn said that he has promised exclusivity to Evans and the Blood Dragon franchise. If you are worried that any potential sequels might get stale, and overdo the "so stupid it's funny" parody writing, Biehn assures us that Evans has plenty of cool ideas for a potential sequel, such as the possibility of different timelines.

Blood Dragon is exactly what I want to see more of. Developers taking their big, serious assets and using them to make fun little spin off side-projects. At $15 and lasting around 5 hours, it's a DLC that's actually worth buying, rather than the $5 costume packs/unlockable weapons other developers keep trying to sell us.

This is great news, i haven't played the game myself , but i have seen people playing it.
It looks gorgeous, fun and most importantly it takes itself about as seriously as No One Lives Forever.
And that's really refreshing in todays FPS market.

It's pretty amazing, I even gave away a copy to a friend. I want a bigger scaled version at some time in the future.

Perfect Pasta Sauce seems appropriate.

This really should become standard practice. Smaller games made within bigger games.

For example I would have made a Master and Commander game with the AC3 naval engine. I'd add back in all the sailing stuff they took out and make a small campaign or even an open world using the already made assets.

It's seriously baffling that nobody thought of doing things like Blood Dragon and that one game made using the Just Cause 2 assets. It reduces production time and cost exponentially and produces actually good DLC, you could even have modders engage in contests where the best modder gets a piece of the pie and the mod is sold for DLC price.

Well considering the ending was left pretty open, it shouldn't be too difficult to formulate a sequel to Blood Dragon, even without alternate timelines.

Blood Dragon 2: Rex Colt gets a Black Friend!
That would be in keeping with bad 90s films. #3 will, of course, make it a female friend in keeping with bad '00 movies like Doomsday. And #4 will probably give us gay Rambo, which is just like regular Rambo only the hypermasculinity isn't being used to cover up anything.

Seriously though, we need a good gay action hero...

I kind of thought this would be the kick in the balls that the gaming industry needed. And the price is very right. I enjoyed Blood Dragon thoroughly; might go for another spin soon.

*Spit take* It did FIVE times better than they were expecting? Jesus Christ, is that even possible? Boy that's got to be a sight to see.

Ubisoft CEO:.....Where did all this money come from?

EDIT: Think that Yahtzee will take a look at this?

Todays FPS market is fine, who needs actual fun and originality in a game when you have dupstep, zombies, and pointless military lingo!

True but that joke only works once.

It deserves to hit 5 times their expectations. No, rightfully it should be 10 times. I finished it the other night and...
Have you ever witnessed anything so utterly beautiful and amazing that you actually started crying? The last level of Blood Dragon was like that. Every time you thought it couldn't get more awesome, it turned up the heat 50%, right up until that final section, where the heat hit 600%. I couldn't breathe, simply because I was finding it hard to comprehend how utterly magnificent everything that was happening on screen was.
I actually stood up and applauded once the credits began to roll.
I would pay good money for a sequel.

Do they want my money now or can it wait? I love Blood Dragon, I can't wait to see what else they come up with for it.

If this is true, it'll certainly kill off any plans Gearbox has for Duke Nukem, which is fantastic!

I like these spin off games apparently. Another major one that comes to mind is Majora's Mask, oh and Portal.

I think Assassin's Creed might also be a spin off that became its own franchise.

Keep it up :)
