This makes me so happy. I love Blood Dragon. And it proves that gamers crave for something different. We can't take any more of the modern military shit. Give us something new and exciting. Like dinosaurs that shoot lasers out of their eyes.

I dont know, while I liked Blood Dragon this one is kind of a one trick pony. I totally love the idea of using AAA games and turn them into a small downloadable spinoff titles like they did here but if now they are planning into turning this one into another franchise soon people will start to dissmiss even this as simply another attempt to milk a perfectly good game.

Now go do something with Assassins Creed 3 or Borderlands 2, there are also the Tom Clancy's games, you already gave 80's parody Far Cry 3 Lite Edition, now suprise uses with something else instead of doing that again.

I friggin love the idea, I'm just worried the novelty will have worn off by the time such a game is announced. It's all just wishful thinking at this point so I'm not going to buy in to anything.

The game came out of no-where and has taken the gaming world by storm, with sales exceeding up to five times Ubisoft's initial sales expectations, according to lead voice actor Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens). The sales were so impressive, says Biehn, that creative director Dean Evans already has a sequel in mind.
Funny that, when the acclaimed Tomb Raider sold what, 3 million copies, and was considered a failure... Turns out you can still make a decent gaming experience and make money from it! Who knew?

Good stuff, going to go try it out now :3

I think Assassin's Creed might also be a spin off that became its own franchise.
What exactly was Assassin's Creed spun off from?

OT: Seriously considering getting this game now.

Would guess Prince of Persia. But other then that no idea.

Ubisoft originally planned AC to be an element/side game/whatever of Prince of Persia according to something I read either here or on Screw Attack. It was just called "Assassins" and as the idea got fleshed out they just made it its own game, and it ballooned into the cash cow it is today.

I think the original concept was for the multiplayer mode that eventually got into later games. I wish I could locate the article in question.

Actually I wasn't going to reply at all to what I thought a fairly innocuous comment that I wasn't even claiming as 100% truth, but people keep quoting me wanting to know and filling my inbox.

I really want this but I;m going to wait for the steam sale.

Steam says you don't have to have the main game to play it? Is that right?

Its a standalone game so you don't need the original FC3 to play it.

OT: I was watching a Stream of someone playing this yesterday, he did the whole main quest which took about 2 and a half hours and I didn't stop laughing all the way through. I will prolly pick it up at some point for myself when I have my back catalog cleared a bit and hopefully when its on sale.

I think you can eke out a sequel to it, but it might have to tone itself a couple of steps down or its going to overload its material. Although if they throw some actual resources into it (other then the cutscenes, its 98% a reskin + Blood Dragons), you could get some better weapon variety and potentially hit the Duke Nukem market, since this is almsot Duke Nukem without the strippers.

After reading this, I couldn't help but think of Jim Sterling reading this article and saying "See, I told you so."

Now if we can just get a review from Yahtzee on Blood Dragon.

This is great news, i haven't played the game myself , but i have seen people playing it.
It looks gorgeous, fun and most importantly it takes itself about as seriously as No One Lives Forever.
And that's really refreshing in todays FPS market.
Just be sure to get it on PC if you can. I tried the PS3 demo before some random nice person gave me their PC download (they had no use for it apparently), and the controls are SOOO much better. And yes, it's good, and surprisingly enough, remind me a little bit of the Syndicate reboot.

I got the game and love the humor!
"Press A to do this"
"Press A to do that"
"Press A to get rid of these patronizing tutorial screens"
"Press A to demonstrate your ability to read"
Just let me kill people damn it!
I laughed for several minutes over this.
I think that captures the spirit of the 80's games that you know did not have damn tutorials, and at the same time lampoons the forced tutorials that we get now. I love that the whole thing was his buddy just pulling a troll on him.

Spider:"Haha reset your training options!!"
Rex:"OH GOD DAMN IT SPIDER!!!

Turning into a full game would be cool but wanting to turn it into a franchise shows that Ubisoft don't even know the reasons behind its success.

As great as Blood Dragon is I know have a funny feeling that in five years time we will begging for some military shooters again. I can just see it now, Call of Duty: CyberOps.
