Alien: Isolation Will Have Non-Alien Enemies

You won't be quite as isolated in Alien: Isolation as we initially thought.

In Creative Assembly's upcoming survival-horror shooter Alien: Isolation, there will, of course, be but a single Xenomorph, much like the original Alien movie. However, that doesn't mean that you will only have one thing to shoot at, as an interview with The Examiner [http://www.examiner.com/article/examiner-exclusive-alien-isolation-dev-shares-new-details-on-upcoming-game] has revealed that the game will feature some non-alien enemies.

"The game is very much about the player's journey as they attempt to survive. The Sevastopol itself is a physically dangerous place, one which the player must navigate their way through," said Jonathan Court, Senior Producer at Creative Assembly. "Of course, there's the Alien, but the station is also populated with the remaining inhabitants, also struggling to survive. How they react to events and the player is sometimes positive, sometimes negative. This will give the player a massive variety of locations, obstacles and situations to overcome."

Court also talked about a few more features in the game, such as a crafting system that will allow players to make various things including weapons, and a player choice system that will change the game's outcome based on the choices you make.

He addressed some concerns about the lack of a co-op mode, stating that the singleplayer only route is the right decision as the team could "focus all of our attention on delivering a fantastic single player experience." When asked if the game will see microtransactions in any shape or form, Court gave a very curt "no".

Alien: Isolation is shaping up to be the Alien game we deserve, and should hopefully help wash out that horrible taste Colonial Marines left behind...

There's...only one Xenomorph in the game?

That seems kind of...weird, I guess. Especially considering just how fodder the Xenos have been in every other game I can think of.

So it's the Xenomorph that's in isolation, not the player?

Clever pun on the game's title?

I love Creative Assembly to pieces the total war series are the only games to take up as much of my time as WoW. But this game dose seem like a long leap for them from there strength in RTS though I do like how the game is sounding like a Alien themed Metroidvania game. So maybe they can pull it off.

Sorry, I WANT CA to succeed but the concept-execution just does not seem to work the more more I learn about this game.

If you read the Rock Paper Shotgun GDC Preview, this is a dead born in it's current state.
(The short Version: The non scripted Alien is unpredictable, meaning: "Trial and Error, over and over again" is the core gameplay for now)

Please, CA, don't fuck this up!

Why can't we just make AvP/A:CM but actually have it, you know, DELIVER on its promises?

I'm actually okay with this. Before things got so action-oriented, the most terrifying thing about the Alien franchise was how the xenomorph was a fox in the proverbial henhouse, with unarmed humans being the hens; with no real way to kill or even fight it, survival was much more cerebral. And I think that having the protagonist all by herself in an entire installation might have ended up getting dull... there's a lot of tension to be had from human interactions in a desperate situation.

I hope they keep the weapons very basic and marginally effective, meant as a high-risk way to drive the xenomorph from an area temporarily.

At first I was like "WAT!???", but I kept reading and I thought "... okay, that actually sounds pretty cool and it has a lot of potential".

I'm really looking forward to this game's release :)

They can have a Oculus Rift version if they include a free pack of adult diapers...

OT: Clearly, the designers have reviewed the original movie and seen the true face of horror: the cat. He's the mastermind of the slaughter. He set it up so they would come across the distress signal and find the egg. He let the chestburster escape the galley. He sat by while his new xenomorph pet killed off the crew. The only question that remains is "why?" Was it because he wanted to hijack the ship to sell their ore cargo on the grey market? Was it to test out his new bioweapon in the field? Or maybe the cat was just a straight up murderous psychopath like every other cat?

One thing's for certain: That cat hair on your sweater is just so he can sic his new project on your soon to be flayed flesh...

The 'Sevastopol' huh. Kind of an unfortunate name considering current events. I guess there was no way for them to know.

This game would have been much better served if you were the Xeno, rather than the human who has to kill a bunch of humans before they can kill the Xeno.

Just give us what we want; To play Predator, and only Predator, stealthing around killing everything.

So there will be almost no Aliens in an Aliens game... How well did the whole Call of Duty + alien thing work out for Colonial Marines again?

The concept sounds cool, this is the kinda game a younger me in 1993 would have expected from the far distant future of 2010+.

The older cynical me however has a number of alarm bells ringing:
-human enemies tend not to be much fun or at least not what one signs up for in an Alien game (unless you're playing the alien and om nom noming humans)
-Only 1 alien? Is going to need an incredible AI or it will bring the entire game collapsing on itself.
-Ai goes same for humans actually, since I wager a lot of the atmosphere would need to come from the interactions with other survivors. So AI needs to be something amazing all around and sadly this hasn't been CA's traditional strength.

It's survival horror...not CoD. Think Amnesia.

I'm 100% certain the Alien is going to be invunerable until the last level. This isn't going to be an open-world game, I think at best it'll be more like Amnesia in structure.

So technically they could probably get away with scripting everything, but I hope the AI is really awesome

When i read the title i face palmed but as i read on i can see this being really good, assuming it isnt a case of shooting humans like in CM but then having the gun disappear when the alien shows up. and instead its more of having a small crew with some people with hidden agendas (like the first film)

Although the more i think about this game i am kind of concerned, it really seems like this game would work best as a 5 hour long game for £20-£25 rather than a full £40-£45 game.

That's not "enemies", that's "characters" but of course "enemies" gets you more views now doesn't it.
This sounds more like an adventure than a shooter but you seem hellbent on focusing on the aspects it has in common with shooters. Why?

What he said. Ok, we get it, people buy shooters. CoD and stuff. That's going to die in two years. Treat each game as its own genre, please.

Is the Alien still scary anymore though?

At this point it's joined the ranks of Dracula, the monster of Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. Creatures who themselves have lost most if not all of their scare factor due to being as iconic as they are.

The Alien has become so over exposed that it has nothing new to show us in terms of scares. We know what it looks like, what it sounds like, how it moves, and what it wants. It's totally stripped of any mystery or dark secrets. It's no longer alien, it's Xenomorph.

Honestly I feel a game with an Alien in it will currently be just as scary as one featuring a regular bear.
