Sony Reveals Limited Edition "Frozen" PS4

Disney fans won't want to let this one go.

Frozen fever has been sweeping the world ever since the Disney film's release earlier this year, and now it looks like Sony is getting in on the action. At least for Japanese Disney fans, you'll be able to pick up a limited edition "Frozen"-themed PS4 from Sony's official store when it launches later this month.

The limited edition console is based on the standard 500 GB HD version of the PS4, but adds a Frozen laser-etched hard drive bay cover featuring Elsa and Anna. It comes with all of the standard PS4 extras, and also includes a blu-ray version of Frozen for you to watch (though we'd wager anyone buying one of these consoles would already have their own copy of the movie).

Sony will offer the PS4 on its official online store [http://store.sony.jp/Special/Game/Ps4/Frozen/], where it will go on sale on July 16 for 42,980 yen (about US$425). There's no word on whether or not it will make its way to other regions at this time.

While it certainly does look pretty cool, I can't help but think a blue and white color scheme would have been more appropriate than black and gold.

Frozen has topped the Japanese box office for 16 weeks in a row, and its signature song Let it go, can at this point be recited from memory by any Japanese girl between the ages of six and sixteen. As someone who teaches English to said girls, I am well and truly sick of anything Frozen related. But here you go.

Meh. I liked the gold version with Luffy on it. It's a nice treat though, I liked how Nintendo had that Hyrule and Eevee 3DS too. Although if it's just laser engraved, couldn't you take it somewhere where they do that to toasters and lighters instead?

Not gonna lie, this is pretty neat. I wish more special editions like this existed. Imagine what it'd be like to have a Darth Vader themed PS4, a Celestia Xbox One, or even a Korra Wii U. I'm sure that there's a market for such a thing, even if a bit niche.

Right so when they add Frozen into Kingdom Hearts 3 will Elsa be a party member or what? Probably the world's villain till you team with Anna to bring her back to her senses but I can hope otherwise.

What is it about this movie? I watched it recently and honestly given what everyone said about it I'm not impressed. Yes it's a decent, well made movie, but what was so spectacular about it? I just don't get it. Maybe it's just me having read far to many stories which are subversions of traditional tropes to be impressed by its use.

OT: Looks better then other limited edition consoles I've seen, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one. Also still pissed at the 50$ price hike for the PS4 in my country (yes I'm still pissed off about that, not going to change until the price is back on par with that of the US).

She definitely would be at some point considering her ice powers would make sense in combat situations. But like you say she probably wouldn't be initially considering the games follow the movie plotline fairly closely but with Heartless involved. Maybe she's being pulled into darkness by the Heartless and you need to help her remove it so she can control her powers?

Speaking of Kingdom Hearts, can I expect my limited edition Kingdom Hearts PS4 any time soon?

Actually...yeah. I think that's exactly what's gonna happen. It makes too much sense, especially since if KH3 in already in production, they don't have a ton of time to radically alter Frozen's overall story. That fits in rather well!

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Personally I would prefer a Luna PS4 in dark blue. ;-)

Why does Japan always get all the cool stuff? If this is released over in the U.S. I will buy it right away, even though there are still no games for the PS4 that I even want to consider. Although I do think a blue and white theme would have been better.

Most problematic? How? It's won a quite a few awards since being released, and it is also the largest grossing animated film of all time, passing the old owner of that title Toy Story 3. I don't think that makes it problematic in the slightest from a financial standpoint, which is all Disney really cares about in the long run.
