The Next Far Cry Could Star Vampires, or Dinosaurs

Ubisoft is asking its fans where the next Far Cry should be set, with the wild west, dinosaur island, and "fighting vampires" being options.

Far Cry 4 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/far%20cry%204?os=far+cry+4] may have only just recently been released, but Ubisoft is keen to start planning the next one, and is asking its fans where, and against what, the next Far Cry should be set. Among the poll options are fairly real-world grounded-in-reality type choices such as Peru and Alaska, plus historical settings such as the Vietnam War and a the wild west.

However, there are quite a few bizarre, outlandish choices, such as "a Far Cry game where you can fight against or join vampires","a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world", or even "a Far Cry game set in the modern day on a Jurassic Park-style island with dinosaurs". Naturally, there is also an option for a Far Cry game set during a zombie invasion.

While these crazy choices do seem a bit strange for the main Far Cry series, which usually maintains some semblance of sanity, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/far%20cry%203%20blood%20dragon?os=far+cry+3+blood+dragon] springs to mind. If you need a refresher, Blood Dragon was the absolutely insane spin-off of Far Cry 3 that parodied 80's action and sci-fi movies in the most hilarious way.

Vampires and Dinosaurs certainly sound like a good setting for another stand-alone Blood Dragon-style spin-off.

It's also worth noting that the poll contains an option for a Blood Dragon sequel, something which is rumored to already be in the works [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/133425-Far-Cry-3-Blood-Dragon-Sequel-Teased], as well as a return to Far Cry 4's world of Shangri-La.

Wouldn't far cry with dino's just be Turok ? Hopefully a better one, mind you.

If we could get another game by the guys and gals who made Blood Dragon and have it just be Max Max or Turok, it might actually make me pay money for a Ubisoft title again.

I'd like to see a Far Cry set in some place with a bit more, variety, when it comes to the climate.

Like desert in the south, tundra in the north.
Sort of a deal.

Out of the options, I'd go with the Mad Max style world. A cyberpunk set Far Cry style game would be super cool as well.

Why not both?

In a more serious tone, something more fantastical would be great :)

Now I want vampire dinosaurs in a game.

I'm copyrighting that right now (and zombie dinosaurs, just to be safe). Crytek, contact me if you want permission to use them.

Are we talking six shooters or laser blasters?

Sixshooter shaped lasers, and lets have the dinosaur mounts be zombies because aliens... fuck it, toss in a random alien invasion.

With jetpacks, 80s music, Michael Biehn, mutants, werewolves, and possibly have a rock-off at the climax.

Never mind a game where you fight dinosaurs. I want a game where you can be one.

A genetically- and cybernetically-enhanced dinosaur soldier with a sardonic streak a mile wide and a philosophy of "you can never have too much gun".

You'd play that, wouldn't you?

I think we've got a winning combination of retro-cheese... Should we add in some voice acting by Bruce Campbell to top it off??

Oh yes... but you gave me a better idea. A film noir type game with a Dino PI...

The whole time I played Far Cry 3, I was thinking to myself "This would be so much better suited and fun if this island were full of dinosaurs."

They should make two, one (semi) serious typical Far Cry game set in a Read Dead: Redemption style revisionist Wild West and a huge Blood Dragon 2 standalone DLC remaking it with either the dinosaurs or vampires. Have Rex Colt fight off a communist vampire invasion or escaped genetically engineered soldier dinosaurs or something, the Wild West one would make a change with the weapon choice etc and a craggy, rocky desert would be another cool setting (Far Cry 2s world was great despite the games faults).

I like the crazy Blood Dragon style but I like the somewhat feasible "real world" of the main series.

He should be the antagonist.

Did the poll include options such as "leave it off a year or three; perhaps have one franchise that doesn't pinch off a new loaf on an annual basis" or "MOAR RADIO TOWERS i must climb the radio towers!!"?

Given the choice, I'd rather have the dinosaurs. Vampires could be just a little to humany-looking to be that far from the norm, whereas dinosaurs are bloody well dinosaurs. Feathery dinosaurs, please. Don't think I've seen those in a game as yet.

I'm sorry, but the Far Cry series left behind all semblances of sanity in Far Cry 1.
FTFY :>

(edit: pre-empting someone who's going to point out that Far Cry has never been an annual franchise.. I know this; don't let rationality or reality get in the way of a jokey dig at Ubisoft's expense.)

I vote Dinosaurs because we have very few games with dinosaurs and far more games with Vampires.

no because you would have to collect 100 dino leafs to unlock dinosaurs.

So basxically you want Krogan [http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Krogan] to be a playable species?

Because neither The Escapist nor Eurogamer could be stuffed to actually show the options properly, here they are:

- A Far Cry game in remote Alaska about surviving extreme wilderness
- A Far Cry game in a futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet
- A Far Cry game set in the Vietnam war during the 1960s
- A Far Cry game set in the cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru
- A Far Cry game where you can fight against or join vampires
- A Far Cry game in the Spaghetti Western style set in the late 19th century Americas
- A Far Cry game that is set during a zombie outbreak
- Blood Dragon 2: A sequel to Blood Dragon with more ??? Power Colt
- A Far Cry game set in a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world
- A Far Cry game in the present day on a Jurassic Park style island of dinosaurs
- A Far Cry game based on the world of Shangri-La from Far Cry 4
- Other, please specify:

Like others, I'd say mixing a few together would be the right way to go. Something like a Far Cry game where the protagonist's Firefly/Millenium Falcon crashes on an alien world inhabited by raiders and warlords who ride an assortment of alien dinosaurs and sci-fi-ish vehicles. Throw in a badass woman as a protagonist and the ability to play it with just Steam's own DRM, and I'd buy that game.
