I went with my kids (3/6/9), and the theatre was packed with kids, so the marketing worked.
However, when 30 minutes went by before the kids even chuckled? I knew this was going to be painful.
3 out of the 5 audience-wide laughs (we're talking chuckles here, not bursts of knee slapping) were the material from the trailer. The other two were merely rehashes (a different kind of toilet joke, and another slapstick joke).
The adults laughed a total of 2 times, one joke I can't remember, and the other was tech-support related.
When we got home the kids couldn't remember the plot other than ending.
The music, when it wasn't background music, seemed merely excuses to play Rihanna's latest album. They weren't memorable.
The whole thing played out like it was a direct-to-dvd movie someone convinced the higher-ups to push to theatres because there was nothing else to advertise.
I seriously hope the book was better.
