Star Wars Episode VII Toys Revealed in Catalog

The merch awakens.

Hasbro has published a catalog featuring the first wave of toys to release for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The catalog (which may have some minor spoilers to be avoided by those who wish to see the film completely cold) features the range of toys and collectibles fans will be able to pick up on September 4 or, as the marketers are calling it, "Force Friday."

Many of the Hasbro brands are getting in on the action. NERF will be releasing two guns based on Stormtrooper Blasters and a third toy designed to resemble Chewbacca's Bowcaster weapon. Micro Machines is going to have a line of vehicles, including playsets of the Millenium Falcon and a Star Destroyer. Even Furby is getting in on the action with a Wookie-speaking "Furbacca" toy which is both sickeningly cute and a cross-promotional idea nobody should have had.

Lightsabers are, as you might expect, well represented. The new "Bladebuilders" line of customizable lightsabers has connecting parts that can combined to produce your own impractically designed plasma killing tool. Force FX lightsabers are back for the more discriminating toy collector.

And there are a lot of action figures. Three full lines of them, in 3.75", 6" and 12" sizes, with their own vehicles and playsets and all manner of other stuff to sit on a fan's shelf.

Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else think the lightsabers look a bit... Cheap? Could just be the pictures though.

Looking at that Bladebuilders image for different combinations of varying practicality I have only one response

Yeah, I completely went WTF when I saw that. Also I kind find it funny and sad that the Kylo Ren lightsaber crossguard saber you petty much have to pull one side of it out than letting the swing pulling out for you.

Also the new Y Wing is fugly.

Lastly, I am suprised they didn't cash in on BB-8-

Seriously who wouldn't want a remote control droid toy of BB-8 especially when he's real in a pratical sense?

As a crusty old man once said, it is inevitable.

That stormtrooper rifle looks neat, but the bowcaster's a bit weak. Eh, let the kids have their action figures and play sets. I used to love the Micro Machines tie-ins, but anything that doesn't scale right with its included set usually grinds my gizzards.

Oh yessss... you did awaken the dark side in me noaw!!! Muhahah

On a more serious note: I guess we now know why they had to have that ridiculous crossguard saber in the first place.

Well, they already hit a right note with me for bringing back the micro machines minis. I had a bunch of those as a kid, and they were the shit.

*edit* myDerp. looked at the pics closer and saw that it was ESB's Boba. which means JJ will probably keep him dead. :c

Ugh. Some of my favorite Star Wars figures were the ones with several points of articulation. Any particular reason these are going back to the awkward old school style?

The only thing i found interesting with that line of products is the weird ship statue which looks like a much wider and overall larger Super Star Destroyer which shows that the imperial navy has at least advanced some what under this new order unlike those recoloured tie fighters we saw in trailer.

Also that kylo ren figures light saber appears to have a different hilt design than what we have been shown with the hilt being under the blade to act as a barrier between the hand the the actual blade.

Am I the only nerd going; facepalm at the furbacca. It's not called Wookiee, The Wookie language is called Shyrriwook.

Also, I don't like furbies but for some reason I really want a furbacca now.

I thought we won the war against furbies a long time ago, looks like we must heed another call to arms. For those of us who fight the furbie menace, we are the walking dead...

Honestly I was expecting more out of the build your own lightsaber stuff. I had in my mind like a catalog of stuff you could choose from to make a personalized saber, not just one hilt and a few flimsy arms to attach. Oh well, just have to make my own saber I guess. The stormtrooper rifle looks pretty good though, that impressed me.

Ah yes, the inevitable avalanche of merchandising. Is it any wonder Obi-Wan's dialogue about living frugally in the Star Wars Radio Drama has never been repeated outside of it?[footnote]Yes, I am fully aware I am a massive hypocrite, having spent enough on Star Wars merch over the years to probably fund an education at Yale.[/footnote]

It says y-wing scout bomber, so hopefully it didn't replace the old one.
Given that it's part of the Rebels merchandise (Kanan Jarrus is the pilot), I'd say it's a Y-Wing variant, much like the Y-Wing "Longprobe" [http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/swg/images/4/4e/Lprobe.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20060706094927] recon scout from the old EU. But yeah, "classic" Y-Wing all the way for me.

Is that a Chewbacca Furby?!?

I only know two things - that whoever thought of this must be made to suffer (preferably with a vinegar bath and some wire wool) and that every single Star Wars fan I know must be bought one for Xmas just for the 'simultaneous rage' factor.

Oh boy, I really hope those lightsaber designs are just milking the crossguard nerdrage joke to its fullest.
