Dark Knight Composer Scoring Modern Warfare 2

Hans Zimmer, the Oscar winning composer behind The Dark Knight score, will be making his debut writing music for videogames when he scores Modern Warfare 2.

You can rest assured that all those epic moments in Modern Warfare 2 will have an appropriately grandiose soundtrack. Hans Zimmer, the composer behind the scores for The Dark Knight, Gladiator and Rain Man, will be writing music for Infinity Ward's upcoming blockbuster. The Hollywood Reporter [http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/music/news/e3ib8e913d233af22e0ef86a4e2cef3c3b6] broke the news, which was confirmed by Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling.

Modern Warfare 2 will figure as Zimmer's first foray into writing music for videogames. He joins the company of names like Harry Gregson-Williams (he did the Metal Gear Solid scores and the main theme for the first Modern Warfare) as Hollywood composers with videogame scoring work on their resume.

You might be most familiar with Zimmer's work in recent times for his Dark Knight score, but the guy's done quite a bit in addition to that, notably having received an Academy Award for his work on The Lion King in addition to nominations for quite a few others. All I can say is that if Modern Warfare 2's music is anywhere near as good as The Dark Knight's, we'll be in for quite a treat.

I've been a fan of Zimmer since buying the score album to Mission Impossible 2, of all things.

This cannot end badly.

This is awesome; it's going to be great to see what he does here. He's done some impressive military scores, like Black Hawk Down and Crimson Tide. This game is back on the radar for me.

It can't have been cheap, though. Between 50 Cent and Hans Zimmer, I wonder what sort of budget they're working on.

I don't usually pay attention to the music in games but I have a feeling I will be in MW2. God damn things are just getting better and better!

As you can tell by my avy, I agree that that would be epic. I don't think he does games though.

But anyway, a big yay, Zimmer's stuff is always excellent.

That's awesome, but I still think they should bring Michael Giacchino back. Call of Duty 1 had the best music out of all of them.

I was sort-of waffling on whether to get MW2, but a Hans Zimmer soundtrack definitely spikes the interest. At the very least I'll be buying the Official Soundtrack album...

Awesome.

I've been a fan of Zimmer's work ever since I started listening to film soundtracks.

I didn't even know he authored the Dark Knight score.

Regardless, it'll be an excellent addition, just like Harry Gregson-William was.

I approve of this.
Hans Zimmer is a masterful composer, if I do say so myself.

His scores are pure bloody brilliance, this will be good. I mean, as said before, he already did amazing compositions from military movies, so there isn't a shred of doubt with me that the MW2 soundtrack will be of the same quality.

I mean, just listen to the Black Hawk Down [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWAhVbayGv4] theme. I so hope now that MW2 will also be so emotionally involving. Enough with the "USA USA USA" dick waving, show us some real horrors, Zimmer can definitly help with that.

I doubt that there would be enough epic stand-offs in MW2 to justify that. Mr Morricone's music is frakking amazing in building up tension. I mean the graveyard scene, 'nuf said. Wouldn't really fit with a game like MW2 though.

There go my hopes of Danny Elfman...

*Snaps fingers*

Whoot. I cannot wait until my fingers are clutched against my copy of MW2.
