Deadpool Already Has a Sequel in The Works

The script for Deadpool 2 has already been greenlighted, and is in production.

So Fox's The Hollywood Reporter [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/deadpool].

The good news is that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the script for the original movie, are writing for the follow-up, and while it has yet to be confirmed if Tim Miller (Deadpool's director) will be on board, Fox is intent on keeping the creative team together.

That's pretty much all the information we have at this point, and we are yet to know if the film's most major player, Ryan Reynolds, will be returning.

Deadpool managed to pull in a record-breaking $135 million domestic gross - the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated movie in history - and a $260 million worldwide haul.

did....did you not like the new deadpool? That first paragraph seems pretty negative OP.

Honestly I thought fox did an all around great job with deadpool, both on the movie side and marketing side, and with the same writers (and hopefully same director) they'll make another great movie, it's not like it hasn't been done before, honestly I prefer quite a few sequels in other series, they've gotten all the introductions and connections out of the way, so they usually get right to the good stuff.

Considering how the movie just pimp-slapped expectations I really hope this makes studios consider branching out into more R-rated works (seriously, where the hell is the new Blade adaptation?) and bringing more variety to superhero movies. The genre is here to stay and with that you should be able to be more risky.

As for Deadpool, I can only imagine how the sequel will top the initial entry. I do wonder if it or X-Force will premier first as the latter has been long-considered, but only tentatively.

I think they'll either think R-Rated films are good because blood and murder and bring about another dork age or the studios think slapping a sarcastic fourth-wall breaking comedic sociopath is all that's needed for a great hit without realizing how the movie balances him out.

Except Sturgeon's Law is always in effect, so James Gunn gets zero credit for pointing out the obvious. The "dork age" of comic books really can't happen withe film due to how the film industry is structured. The reason the "Dark Age" is so controversial is because it nearly killed the comics industry due to Marvel and DC pandering to the subset of older fans that inevitably shrank. That's not gonna be the same with the film industry as the R-rated stuff is fewer in number to the PG-13 stuff that are the cash cows. Superhero films are here to stay like any other genre so it's time to just man up and diversify instead of sitting on properties like Sandman, Preacher, 100 Bullets, Fables, Transmetropolitan, Marvel MAX, etc. Even if they take the wrong lesson away from Deadpool it's not going to do much. I'm more worried for if Suicide Squad flops as Hollywood has a short memory and it would give them the perfect excuse to once again willingly castrate themselves.

Yeah, I saw an interview of Ryan's, when a friend introduced him to the comic book years ago. And...I think in the comic itself(?), or maybe the creator said this, I'm not sure, but Ryan said that Deadpool was described as "Ryan Reynolds crossed with a mutant Sharpei". So he was immediately interested in the character, when even the creator said the character had a bit of Ryan in it. xD

OT: Cool, I enjoyed DP, so did my wife. It was an amusing movie. My only regret was they didn't play the song Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the movie. It would've been a fun little nod to the inspiration of the character, maybe have it as her ringtone or something. Ah well, the Monster Magnet fan in me was disappointed, the rest of me was vastly amused with the movie.

Yeah, it apparently actually is writen in a comic. And it does fit. I was one of those people who thought he's work in the role.

Unlike, say, when he was set to star in that Highlander reboot that probably isn't happening anymore.
