Arkham Asylum 2? Maybe "If People Like the Game"
Is Rocksteady Studios thinking about a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum? Says lead narrative designer Paul Crocker: they're just "waiting to see if people like the game."
A sequel to a critically (and commercially) successful game? Wow, what a novel idea! The Rocksteady team may have earned some well-deserved time to relax, kick back, and sit on their laurels [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/6467-Review-Batman-Arkham-Asylum], but surely at some point people are going to start asking: What's next for the Caped Crusader? There are plenty of Batman villains that didn't get a chance to shine in Arkham... let's do something with them, perhaps?
So is Rocksteady planning a sequel? VG247 asked [http://www.vg247.com/2009/09/04/batman-2-were-just-waiting-to-see-if-people-like-the-game-says-rocksteady/] Arkham's lead narrative designer Paul Crocker, who responded that at the moment, Rocksteady was "waiting to see if people like the game." It's a perfectly fair answer, though... I think when you have a 90+ score on Metacritic, and are topping sales charts worldwide? It's a pretty fair assumption that people might like your game.
Still, it's their right not to talk about a sequel for the moment. But what about DLC? Are there any plans for that? "We don't talk about the DLC, I'm afraid," said Crocker. That's an interesting way to put it - "the" DLC? Seems a bit specific to me. Alas, hints (whether unintentional or otherwise) seem to be the best we'll get for now.
