PAX Organizers Confirm Swine Flu Case at Show

If you're feeling ill and were at PAX 09 last weekend, you should definitely go get yourself checked out, because PAX organizers have reported that there was a confirmed case of H1N1 at the show.

Fears of the H1N1 virus, otherwise known as the swine flu, tempered some of the festivities at this year's E3, but the disease was not much of a concern in the weeks leading up to the Penny Arcade Expo 2009, which just occurred this past weekend in Seattle. Now the organizers of the gathering are reporting that there was indeed a confirmed case of the swine flu at PAX 09.

"Just heard of our first test-confirmed swine flu case at the show," the organizers wrote on Twitter [http://twitter.com/Official_PAX/status/3845571614]. "PLEASE if you feel symptoms (fever, etc) go to the doctor."

Around 60,000 people attended the convention, which means that there was quite a number of possibilities for the disease to spread. "This is the real thing. If you get this number of people together in this close a proximity it is the perfect storm for these kind of wild fire virus spreads," PAX's Robert Khoo told Kotaku [http://kotaku.com/5354822/pax-organizers-report-confirmed-swine-flu-case-from-show]. "We just want to make sure everyone is informed."

The swine flu is typically easy fodder for ridicule, but when it hits close to home it becomes no laughing matter. No need to freak out, though. If you're feeling genuinely sick and went to PAX, just go see your doctor, get yourself checked out and - if necessary - get treated. Also be sure to send an email over to [email protected] and let the PAX folks know what's up so they can spread the word.

Swine Flu is at the back of my mind, I don't know alot of cases where I am, no one at my school has suffered from it. To me it's just another Flu.

Yep, I probably got it. I'll be going to the doctor's later today. Supposedly Ryan Scott of Geekbox started it.

Any full grown adult should be able to handle this, just like the regular flu.

P.S. Thanks

What's too worry about? You're stuck lying in bed for a few days, oh that's so bad, you might puke a few times, have a headache, have like leg/arm pains, but as long as you have no serious medical conditions, then there's almost nothing to worry about.

Yeah, it's not like it'll kill everyone. Maybe we've seen too many virus-inflicted zombie apocalypse scenarios that a flu seems really scary now. It really shouldn't be, at least not for healthy people.

hey, its hit very very home for me, and its still very much fodder for ridicule - I currently live in a Swine Flu hotspot in England - we have some of the highest concentrations of the disease anywhere. I know at least 3 people who have had it. My mum reckons she got it. You know what? I don't give a crap. People who have had it say that its pretty much a slightly worse version of a normal flu, and that its not really that big a deal. None of the people where I live have died.

Seriously, its not that big a deal... well, for now, at least. Anyone who got it now, be glad you got it before it mutated, at least your resistant to the virus now before its a lot, lot worse.

lol, I don't know many people... besides, people outside of my area haven't got any people they know that has Swine Flu :p

I bet you more people have it than I know of, cause they brush it off thinking its normal Flu, or thinking its Swine Flu and brushing it off anyways :p

I attend a University now...I can't afford to miss classes.

If I attend a convention for a weekend, no big deal. If I get sick, I don't know how long I'll be under...
