Craigslist Poster Seeks Hardcore World of Warcraft Player

Some people will do anything to be the best, even paying a random stranger what seems like a boatload of money.

A poster on the San Francisco Craigslist jobs listings [http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/etc/1379776688.html] will apparently pay a ton of money to whoever can assist him (assuming that the poster is a man) in achieving a high World of Warcraft arena rating. He is looking for a hardcore arena healer that can also play a Death Knight on the Eitrigg PVE server.

My gut reaction tells me that this guy probably has burnt a few bridges, has a bad reputation on his server, and now needs an outside party to bring him back up in the standings. Then again, maybe he just can't find anyone to play with. He's offering "$50.00 (USD) per hour played, and it goes up to $100 (USD) per hour played after rating of 1850, plus a bonus of up to $5000 (USD) for a rating of 2350." That's big money for playing a video game, no?

Respondents must "be at least a Rival+ in arena healing," "be able to play at least 3hrs per day during the week and 5hrs over the weekend," "and will also need to be able to play a DK to farm honor for items." Though he's not asking for references, you also "*MUST* be trustworthy, helpful, have vent WITH MIC, and not have an holy-then-tho attitude." I'll be whatever he wants for the kind of money that he's paying, but I can't say I wouldn't play a bit of Peggle while on the clock.

The payment here seems so high that it almost could be fake, but I can completely understand someone being willing to pay for this service. Good PvP partners are not easy to find, especially ones that will play whenever you want. I've never wished that I still played World of Warcraft more, and that I wasn't such a carebear when I did. Looks like someone will be living the dream soon: getting paid to pwn noobs.

Still not enough money to get me to resurrect my resto shamie. Especially if he's Alliance!

Odd. Bribing Blizzard would be more secure than wasting money on untrustworthy people(Even though Blizzard would never accept a bribe).

Almost makes me want to play again for the sake of easy money and being a lazyass. Arena healing was easy back in the day. Not sure how it is now as I haven't played since Season 3, when I quit.

Even if he does want a good arena rating that is an awful lot of money to, in my opinion, be throwing away.

Especially the over 2350 rating bonus. Thats horrendous. With that amount of money he could get a whole lot better things.

I quit not too long ago and stopped checking patch notes, but last I checked Disc Priests and Resto druids were roflstomping the healer tables for arenas.

And healing with a resto druid is an exercise on how fast you can mash your /castrandom HoT button.

At least in early WotLK, arena healing was pretty rough. It was back to being all about the burst; maybe resilience has fixed that, I don't know.

Could be fake....could be real, I do know it's hard to get a healer, let alone a good healer in WoW.

Something about this whole thing seems a little off. Call me paranoid, but who's willing to pay that much money just to get ahead in WoW? When you could easily buckle down and keep looking for people to help you sans the real-world-money cost? Either this guy's really desperate, or we're not seeing the whole picture here. Possibly both...

Apparently you've not seen the Gold Selling market for MMOs before. Real world money spent to 'get ahead' in a video game.

'Tis nothing new.

To be honest, if I were to even think of doing this I'd have gone to the top guilds/teams first. I'm sure SK-Gaming wouldn't mind another $5000 plus time in their coffers.

Sad when you have to buy friends like that. People are always looking for arena teammates and if you show some skill, commitment, and a little sociability people will come looking for you. If he had 3 hours/day to commit and 5 hours on weekends he should be able to hold his own without paying anyone anything.

If I took the job I'd want to see the money up front.

Someone has lots of money and wants to be on the top of the Arena bracket. That's fine. If I had a lot of money, I'd own every single game I could get my hands on, but if that's what he wants, that's what he gets, and that's cool.

What I don't understand is that they need to be willing to play a Death Knight to Farm Honor pieces.

What does that mean? Does he want them to use his Death Knight to farm Honor for him? I guess getting paid that kind of scratch that could be the case, but it seems to be pretty risky behavior. Hiring someone to be your arena partner isn't against the EULA of WoW, but hiring someone to play your character certainly is, and it would be a pretty good way to get banned if word of it got out.. say after a dispute with your Employed Arena Partner.
