2D Games

The first console I owned was a PS1, so I completely skipped the 2D era.
Now, owning a Xbox 360 and playing a lot of Arcade games, I'm really getting into retro 2D games and I have to say I've fallen in love. 2D games have a certain charm that 3D can't copy.
Who agrees with me? Most of the people I play games with will NOT play a 2D game. What are some good xbox 360 arcade games? I really love Street Fighter 2 HD and Marvel vs Capcom 2. Is Samurai Shodown any good?

2D games had a different feel to them than current 3d games, I loved to play Sonic & Knuckles, or Prehistorik, Or the Blues Brothers.... a good times.

How 2d is 2d? As in no depth to the environment (mortal kombat etc)? or as in just no depth to the art (right word?... like alundra or zelda on gameboy or snes)? Because side scrollers I am pretty indifferent about but games like Alundra 1 are abso-bloody-lutely awesome. The art style of Alundra 1 is just charming. Alundra is PS1 but it rocks IMO get it any way you can.
