2D Metroid when?

Seriously are we ever going to see a 2d metroid game ever again. The last one I believe was zero mission and that was 2004. Metroid is one of nintendo's best selling franchises and if you've ever played it enough you'd understand the need for a newer 2d version.

e3 is soon thankfully and I hope there should be a new one by now.

I bet we'll see a 2D sequel to Fusion, they left a few story threads open.

I hope to see another game taking place after fusion. They have finished the Prime arch, and the series has enough room for one last game to fully complete the franchise and HOPEFULLY (but who are we kidding) they will let this franchise be laid to rest and not suffer the fate of Mario and Zelda. I mean Metroid is the only Nintendo franchise out of the big 3 that I see as being a consistently solid franchise that has barely faltered, one last game and close the curtains Nintendo PLEASE!!

I know what you mean. I mean, they already made a huge, uncharacteristic change to the franchise with Prime, so maybe Nintendo will do something else unusual for them with this franchise and end it. Although finding a new way to greatly improve the longevity like Prime would be cool too.

Seeing a fusion sequel on the DS in the form of the classic games (2D) but with 3D models would be great, I don't think they should do the whole FPS thing as thats just Primes thing and we should just let Prime have it therefore letting it to be entitled to it's identity. To this day i still wish the prime games where on the PC, I'd be all over those things, but alas the Day Nintendo does that is the day hell freezes over....or Microsoft buys them out..

Well the problem is what is Samus going to hunt that has a bounty on? She did exterminate the title name of her games and mother brain is gone.

It has felt strange since the creation of the Prime and fusion series for me with Samus.

Well, after the events of Fusion (which I feel I should add is the farthest along in the Metroid timeline), Samus is wanted for blowing up SR388. So, the Hunter has become the Hunted.

In my opinion, Metroid Prime is the best Metroid game.

So I don't care about 2D Metroid games. Nintendo should make a new IP. Or they should make Pikmen 3.

Any new Metroid game would be a very welcome thing. By my estimation, they haven't made a bad one yet.
