Curious y it doesn't come with a pair of steel balls. XD
I was surprised about that too. Then again, I'm also surprised that doesn't come with an issue of Penthouse featuring Duke babes.
Or a fake episode of "MTV Cribs" featuring Dukes place.
Though I would assume a pair of steel balls in every box would up the shipping cost quite a bit. The dice are sweet though.
Or a Duke Nukem brand vibrator.
Well Obama has one, why not Duke?

Now that I have doubtlessly given you all nightmares for years to come, my thoughts on the collector's edition:
I admit to not being a huge Duke fan, even though I do like the character. Viewing this objectively I do not think that content is worth a $40 price increase. Most of the stuff involved seems like the kinds of promotional items most companies would give away. I personally can't see many people displaying that bust, especially seeing as it's probably made out of resin or very light plastic, and that pretty much leaves the art book, which most people are going to flip through once or twice.
Of course opinions vary, if I do wind up getting a FPS game at some point this year this will probably be the one (down the road, I'm committed to too many games right now), but the Collector's edition doesn't personally suck me in.
Tastes DO vary of course, an I suppose if I was a more fanatical fan it might be differant. Honestly the things that have impressed me in the past are things like the little hardcover book that came with "Alan Wake" that had material in it which actually expanded the story. I really liked that one for some reason, despite a lot of my criticisms of the game itself and it's sudden change in development direction.
Of course then again I'm also one of those old fogeys who looks at most collector's editions and thinks "hey all that stuff should just come with the game by default!". On a lot of levels I still think an expensive product like a game deserves the bells and whistles, and stuff like that is a good thank you for paying for it. But then again you have to remember I came up gaming in an era where you'd buy games like "Ultima IV" and the box would absolutly bulge from all the stuff it was holding. I also tend to think things like the famous cloth maps were a lot more awesome than what your seeing in these editions today.
I also have fond memories of how the Ultima IV spellbook had runes you could translate on the cover, with the key in the game's travelogue. This kind of translation continueing as a theme through a lot of the games when you read signs and the like. I guess it was a pain now, but I thought it was cool at the time. One of the things I like about the lore of "Dead Space" is the Unitologist script, and the key that exists for it even if I lack much in the way of patience. For all my criticisms I do think credit is due for things like that.
