This isn't X-Com. This is a shooter set in the 50's.

Maybe if they were doing something interesting with it, I'd be fine with the radical change. But all it looks like is just another shooter.
Read what the guy above you said.

It looks fun, and definitely better than the modern war-shooters (even if I do like them).

Changing the gameplay I can live with. Making something that looks shitty I can live with. But taking the X-Com name and putting it on something which is set in a completely different world? What's the point.

Hell if they wanted to go mass market what's wrong with rebuilding the original games as RTSs, or tactical squad based shooters?

It is looking pretty sweet. I especially like the enemy design. It seems otherworldly, alien, and decidedly non-cheesy. I don't care if "it is not X-COM", I am still looking forward to the game. I can't wait! :)

Hmmm...

I think that maybe that's just not a very well made trailer. If not, its a little worrying.

I am a turn based strategy whore, but I can get into a good FPS from time to time. However, there's nothing about any of the trailers I have seen that indicate anything close to good.

On the up side, it looks slightly better than X-Com Interceptor! On the down side, that game was terrible...

I can't wait to fight the obelisks from 2001/2010 and the black oil from the X-Files so I can do research with my shotgun, yay!

^This. Hard!

It's a shame: On top of the nostalgia for a game enjoyed during younger years; the X-Com name means, to many people, the finest all-round strategy game they've ever played.

I really want to see what happens between missions, personally. I enjoyed the strategic part of X-Com more than the tactical (would have loved an "auto-resolve" button on those mid-game missions, they could turn into real slogs). If they've stuck an FPS in there but kept the resource management, team building and research tree around it... Not getting my hopes up, but I could get into that.
This is a great idea!

I wish that the studios would stop playing the nostalgia card and just come up with their own titles. X-COM was... well X-COM. It had it's "Lore" as described through UFOPedia, it had it's rules. This is nothing like X-COM and i don't even mention the FPS approach, do not care about that part. Call it Alien Defence, UFO Attack, Wierd Blocks From Space Forming Fancy Shapes Mid Air: The Game, but leave X-COM out of it.

The trailer also doesn't appeal to me at all, the brief gameplay flashes aren't really promising nor the visuals are worth the "oooooh"-reaction. Seems bit bland all in all. Maybe the E3 will bring some revelation but, personally, not holding my breath. Plenty of other interesting games on horizon that don't try to abuse old titles.

I keeps hearing "IT'S NOT X-COM!" from everywhere one the internet, but I for one think this is an interesting premise. Maybe it's because I never really played the old X-COM titles, or maybe I'm just sick and tired of so many "Look At Our Guns: Another Realistic Modern Shooter" or "Hey, We Were There Once: WWII America" or "This Is What You Get For Liking Starship Troopers: More Space Marines!"

Just noticed this: go to the 45 second mark in the trailer. There is a clock tower with lightning striking around it. The time on the clock is 10:04, the exact time the lightning struck the clock tower in Back to the Future. Since the game is set in the 50s, that's a pretty damn funny little nod...

I'm such a nerd, I can't believe I noticed that...

So Xcom is now a first person shooter with a dash of Pokemon in it? =P (Interesting to note: I don't care about the old X-com game.)

This franchise was dead in the water. This game looks great, it's a must have for me.

I'm glad they actually have people who care behind the wheel now. The last X-Com games were so god awful, fans should be rejoicing. They aren't, but who cares? This looks to be a slice of awesome.
That better be a fucking joke. The original X-Com is beloved because it's bloody awesome! It's still one of the best games ever made. Fans of X-Com are nearly inducing heart attacks in their absolute rage and disgust at this rape of a hallowed series. It. Is. Rape.

Fuck 2K.

"Not X-com"
"Looks like shit"
"Not getting it"
"Doesn't look like X-com"
"X-com,X-com,X-com"

I know what you're all thinking already, so just pick one, it'll save you some typing time.
I think it looks interesting myself, I like the idea of you trying to learn and defeat an enigmatic alien force attempted to take over the Earth.

Someone once said that it seemed as though all games were heading towards some kind of 'zombie' singularity. I disagree.

We are clearly heading towards an FPS singularity.

As many people say, it's the problem with the game itself but the title. This game retcons the X-COM in 100%, there is no similarity above "thar be aliens" and even those aliens look nothing like those from original game series. They are free to release a game about fighting off alien invasion, but don't call it X-COM if you don't plan to use X-COM's "universe".

Imagine if they would make Batman game without any character from DC Universe, that was not taking place anywhere near Gotham/Metropolis, and actually was medieval simulator of a peasant wriggling in fertilizer. That's what this game is to X-COM.
