Does anyone else think 2K games is trying to do with X-com what Bethesda did with the fallout series?
If they try and follow the Bioshock formula, do you think it will work?
I can not really pass judgement as I didn't really like Bioshock enough to do so.
What do you guys think?

Sorry if this has been brought up before, haven't been on the site for a while.

its BS. you do NOT try to recreate what the original company failed to. there were multiple FPS games of x-com and they all SUCKED. if the original team couldn't do it, what makes you think a consolized company could?
so becuase a company makes console games as first priority (im guessing thats what you mean) it will suck? PC fanboy if thats what you meant.

I'm all for it. X-Com was a great serise and if there's a company out there that's proven it can revive particular gameplay styles/franchises, it's 2K Games. To say that it will suck simply because the guys who created the X-Com RTS weren't good at making an FPS is like saying you should never get a wedding cake because your favorite cook at the steak house can't make one. 2K Games has a lot more experience in this field of gaming than Mythos Games/MicroProse did, in my opinion. Best of luck to them and I hope for another great FPS title with amazing atmosphere and inventive combat options.

Quite.

I predict another Command And Conquer: Renegade happening. Some liked it, but general opinion is that it was a bad, bad, bad decision to convert to FPS.
Funny thing, that. I enjoyed Renegade (the multiplayer was awesome), but I don't have any faith in the new X-COM game.

I'm all for anything that revives X-Com. UFO Defense still remains one of my favorite games of all time and I've always felt like the series never got a proper following. An FPS would be interesting, and if nothing else perhaps would open the door to another SRPG on the DS or PSP.

no. i mean it cuts things down for consoles. example, the lack of an inventory in bioshock.
wait what? thats stupid. thats not cut down for console thats pure laziness. I have played a bunch of games for consoles with good invetory systems.

We can always not buy it.
Maybe I'll start caring after I see some good early gameplay footage.

Reading the OXM article now. It appears that this could work.
Could be a good follow up to Bioshock, which frankly I can't bring myself to care about at all, but a terrible follow up to UFO.

As others have mentioned, this isn't the first time a dev tried making Xcom into a shooter. The last attempt was a complete failure, and every other attempt was canceled.

Really, you'd think publishers would have gotten the hint by now.

Get out of my mind.

I can't possibly say any more, he has stolen my opinion.

Don't hate on the new X-com just yet. Just look at Fallout 3.
...This is why we should wait for the final product. Polarizing opinions here.

To be fair, while I don't think turning X-Com into an FPS makes it intrinsically impossible to not be a disaster, turning an Talky/Shooty RPG into a first person viewpoint is less of a departure than a Turn Based squad research heavy stratergy game (Christ how do you define X-Com?)

I don't know. Haven't played it...I played a game hailed as VERY similar on the GBA. Made by one of the people who made X-COM, actually.

I loved that game. Can you tell me if X-Com is actually like that?

yea right. this aint bioshock. if your looking for inventitive combat options and atmosphere then in the words of a biker "you came to the wrong bar buddy". XD
Except for the fact that X-Com has a lot of potential to make crazy guns. I hope something like District 9 influences the making of the weapons, if only because I think they had some interesting ideas with how plasma technology would manifest itself into weapons. Rail guns are always neat, too.To say that the vast amount of upgrades from the RTS wouldn't have some impact on how stylistic this game could become, as well as the sheer variety of insane weaponry you could pull out of your Protagonist's Infinaty Backpack?. So yes, I do believe there's plenty of room for inventive weaponry.

X-COM is not much like that at all. It's more like Civ than a japanese strategy RPG.

I don't know why you are trying to stir things up with UFO fans when you haven't even played the game. There are people here who love the game much more than Fallout or Bioshock or any other game you can mention. Fallout is nothing like UFO and from the sound of it this new game is also nothing like Fallout 3.

I'm not "Stirring" anyone up. I'm just saying not to hate something that doesn't even exist yet.
