Okay, since of where I live, my internet line can only come up to 2mbps as a maximum.
Because of this, I find it very hard to play on most online games.

Would there be any way to increase my connection / decrease my ping?

(PS: there is no way of upgrading my line :/)

What is your upload?

This is what you should have if you want to play online games fast. Comcast offers this for 30 bucks a month.

If you are the only pc on the network then I would say disable any software that is accessing the network. ie chat clients torrents etc. If there are other people on your network you can turn off those pc's if they are not in use.

edit; you can also check what connections you have open with the netstat command.

This, your upload is more important. I'm guessing it is probably around 500kbps? If other people are even just browsing the internet at the same time that you are playing, your upload is being sapped.

YOU GET A WHOLE 2 MBPS.I envy you.I get like,1 mbps,if I'm lucky.
People still have connections that slow?

Gezz I think I point this out every-time a question of connection speed comes up but I live in the middle of a rural area and have a 35Mbps connection.

OP, you should be mostly fine. A 2Mbps connection should allow you to play games online without real issue. You must have some other issues, which could be physically related to your connection. Have you tried any of the various speed testers online first of all to see if you are even getting the 2Mbps you are paying for?

Extra info:

I did a speedtest.net run, and got this:

0.35MB/S and 0.36MB/S Compared to 2mbps on both upload and download...

What does this mean?

We are paying for 8mbps.But we have two computers,so that slows it somewhat down. And then we have to take into account that the internet company actually gives people out on the land much slower internet connection.

you are not getting 2mbps, If you are using wireless make sure no one is leaching it off you or that your wireless router is not crap.

Companies like to throttle connections too based on what you are doing,(torrenting, downloading etc), but on a speed test like that ill ring them and give them an earful.

Also connections tend to differ greatly during peak hours when everyone else is using them. Do test during off peak hours. If you get near 2mbps you know its none of your hardware.

50 bucks a month for that? Whoever's in charge for the connection here should get a kick in the arse.

2mbps is what we're supposed to be paying for.
But from what i can remember, i think the line was capped slightly in the past, so it could be below 2MBPS.

This means your connection is poor :( Unfortunately there's nothing you can really do about it (save moving house).

could you state your type of connection please?

it sounds like you have mobile broadband (satellite) which is very inefficient method, any wireless communication is thus you are going to have to do your best to get a hard-wire connection otherwise there is no real way of doing this effectively

You're paying for "UP TO 2mbps". Realistically, you will only get that if you are right next to the server and there is no one else online or using any electrics within a mile.

My upload speed is 0.15 mbps. I'm dead fucking serious. My download, on the other hand, is 3.39. *confuzzled*

That's all fair and well, now onto my next question.

How can i improve this whilst playing online?
