I am a huge Castlevania fan, it was one of the first games that I ever remember playing when I was young. Yet even though the series has had tremendous success in the realm of 2-D, the leap to the 3rd dimension is still posing problems. If I recall correctly there have been three attempts to bring this series into the 3rd dimension. Castlevania 64, Castlevania Lament of Innocence and Castlevania Curse of Darkness. Castlevania 64 was a terribly constructed game that really hurt the series confidence. Castlevania Lament of Innocence was a very solid game that some enjoyed and others hated. I personally thought that even though it cleared up the story's plot lines and reasoning behind the Belmont family curse, it still failed to present gameplay the way that hardcore fans imagined. Lastly Castlevania Curse of Darkness. I don't really know much about this game save the fact that it had very average reviews and from what I played, stuck to the formula of Lament of Innocence. I strongly desire a Castlevania game of this current generation but I fear that Konami will yet again drop the ball. So with this hazy track record I pose the question:

Can the Castlevania series ever deliver a block busting game in 3-D?

Yea its just I don't want the series to die or get a bad rap because it sucks in 3-D.

the only way i can see them doing a 3-d version of that game is if it were like DMC or god of war

Yes but the thing is the series needs a totally different feel than that.

Well the whip is a big part of the game play along with the usage of subweapons, if it was to play like DMC or Gow the feel would be ruined so I really don't know.

Vergle used a sword in DMC and it was just fine also with Dante it would be the same feel just a bit looser and with more combos. then there is when god of war comes in, Kratos's gameplay could be simaler to that

Frankly, I don't see why Konami needs to let up on their 2D iterations of Castlevania on the various handheld systems. Almost all of them have been nothing short of outstanding. Plus they're cheaper to make.

Maybe but the gameplay should feel confusing like Metroid or Bioshock then have the FAST paced action of DMC.

It hasn't worked so far, to be honest with you. I LOVED SotN, but the later PS2 incarnations of the series can't hold a flame to them.

I totally agree I loved SotN and it was great. I just wish that well someone could get it right in 3-D

ok that is asking for way too much. First off if it is confusing like metroid or Bioshock and as fast paced it will only bring controller breaking frustration.

Untrue, its just that that is how it MUST be done in my opinion. That is a lot to ask for but thats how I think it should be. Exploring Dracula's castle and killing demons and other creatures of the night.

Let's hope so- all signs point to the next one being another attempt at an A+ 3D game, though it will probably be a year at least with Judgement just out.

I would personally love to see a Castlevania for the Wii that allowed motion control of the Vampire Killer whip and simultaneous movement, but even on one of the other big consoles comparisons to DMC are inevitable as nightfall (in fact IIRC Lament of Innocence got that frequently in it's day). Anything that makes the character less clumsy (see: CV 64) and more fluid in battle can only be a good thing, especially if a great deal of platforming is used to break up battles.

They've been building towards something huge storywise, what with 3 of the recent games dealing with the Belmont clan's dissapearance in preparation for the 'war of 1999' and this weird time traveller St. Germain showing up.

that's really a great idea but Wii motion sensor control would eff it up somehow and bring the game to a plausible failure

the biggest problem would be a.)the scale of dracula's castle b.) repitition of returning to the same area over and over again so honestly the thought of a good 3D castlevania is nice sounding it just won't happen in a generation or so
