As I speak, Mega Man Zero 1, 2, 3, and 4 each rest peacefully in shiny metal DS cases on their own, separate game shelf.:)
Not to sound like a troll but that's where those cash cows need to stay after turning Zero into a 12 year old genderly ambiguous anorexic kid.

Honestly WTF part of him looked robotic!?!

Secondly I've said it once I'll say it again Inafune should have stuck with his gut and ended it at X5 and let Zero die like a freaking hero.

DAMN YOU CAPCOM!!
It's not his fault the higher ups insist on Zero returning. They even vetoed him killing off a fallen X in Zero 1 and made it a replica instead. Having the real X would have been a much better and dramatic start to the series. Him finally being driven into well-meaning vigilantism after years fighting alone and repenting after death would have been a fantastic end to his character arc. Instead his development was ignored he got unceremoniously bumped off by a nobody in Z2 anyway.

So wait, X8 was good? Damn. X7 was enough to make me quit on the series. I had a feeling it was going to be bad when I started it up and was treated to an exact copy of the first level of X1 (only played with Zero instead of X) and it never got better. Now I'm sad that I didn't keep with it.
Although, I did appreciate them giving us the option to listen to the original Japanese language track, because the English actors were god-awful.
Yeah X8 was better. it was 2.5D through the entire thing rather then 2.5D swiching to 3D. The only problems I had with it was that it did not show enough on the screen. If the Camera was zoomed out a bit more then I would have loved the game even more. (And if they tookout Gigabolt Manowars level they would have had no complaints from me.)

My favorite in the series was X5, because that games Level design was just beautiful. The levels were Balanced but difficult, the enemies were hard but fair, and the bosses were awesome. Loved all of their fights except Duff McWhalen. Love his name but when he goes to the left side of the screen is when I start having trouble.

The Mega Man X games will always be a favorite of mine. I really hope for an Mega Man X9 sometime in the near future. I just wonder since Sigma is officially considered dead by the end of X8, who'd be the new villian for X9? Would it be the final boss from X8, known as Lumine, or a new boss? Heck, the creators of the games said that in some way, Willy is suppposedly still alive in some form by the X-series timeline. Though they never went into detail as of how. So could he become a surprise final boss of X9? I certainly hope so, and if that were to happen, I'd like for him to spill the beans and admit he created Zero. Yeah, we all know Willy created Zero. It's just never been officially said in the X series. Only in flashbacks within Zero's memory is it revealed.

Megaman X also got a lot of fans theorycrafting about what happened in those 100 years between the original Megaman and X series.

I dunno how people liked half the series X,X2,X4,X5 were great through good. X3,6,7, were just awful, the fact there's people rate X3 higher than any of the games besides 7 in any respect is astounding. X3 had awful music, awful bosses/midbosses.

There's some truly amazing games granted but I think there's a large chunk of bad that needs to be cut away.

my thing is, were those even linked? i always thought the X series and the original megaman series took place in different universes like battle network and that ds clone of battle network. I the only series that were linked were in this order:
Megaman X series
Megaman Zero Series
Megaman ZX series

Megaman, Megaman Adventure(Megaman Volnaut/64)Megaman Battle Network, and Megaman Starpatrol all took place in different universes as opposed to the X-saga that all took place on the same planet in the same universe at different points of time

I couldn't agree more with this article. Megaman X is a spectacular series and need to continue, or at least conclude (again) in a new game. (and wtf making X only a cameo in MvC3?)
Wait what!? Megaman X made a Cameo in MvC3?

Where was that? I mean I swore I beat everyone's ending but saw no sign of him in anyone's endings.

Please explain
That's what it said in the article. I looked up all the endings and the only Megaman in them was Volnutt. I assume it refers to Zero's blue costume, which resembles X's colors.

X always felt significantly more mature. The internal conflicts that Megaman original experienced were really brought out during the later X series as more and more storyline was apart of the game.

The inner struggles of all the characters, x Zero and Axle, from being the primary virus carrier to being the "new age" reploid but seeing your brothers get infected like just the rest, tring to set yourself apart... I loved it.

Not mentioning at all the entire point of the games, the awesome platforming, the often horrendous bossfights (X8 was such a pain in the ass the first time through, I swear I nearly snapped my controller in half).

If they decide to continue the X series, nothing but good could come of it AS LONG as they stick to the original game formula and add more story and more side items and maybe some exploration?

Really? Where did you hear that? I've never heard the idea before, but it does explain his ponytail a bit. Anyway, if you ever play the later games I don't think a female zero would fit as well. I just can't see it in my head, a Zero with a female voice. Maybe it's because he seems like a character that's a bit less moral and a bit less naive than X, especially if you play the later games and the (much) better Zero series.
I honestly don't recall where I heard it first. It's entirely possible I may be repeating an urban legend, in which case I'll happily eat my words (provided I can choose the condiments). I'm sure you're right, however, since like I said I only played the first one and can't speak to the storyline development of the later games.

Which I really badly need to do, come to think of it.

Not quite. It's entirely possible that almost all of them are linked.

Original, then X 100 years later, then Zero 200 years later, then ZX another few hundred years, then Legends a couple thousand years later I think. Yeah, if you try to connect the stories - which you can after very subtle hints in all of them - then you find that they could all be connected. Or at least in the same universe.
i see where your coming from but where does star patrol and battle network fit in this

I love the Mega Man X games... well all the ones up until X6. The SNES Mega Man X games were special though, oh how amazing it was to be a kid and hear this blaring out of my television on summer vacation.

Funny, I just passed up an opportunity to buy Mega Man X... Maybe I'll see if my friend hasn't sold it yet. Sounds like fun. I was in a household that was entirely Mega Man-less :/

megaman x had everything. i loved the replay value of each level as well as your ability to get upgrades to get into areas otherwise impossible. it's the same reason i loved warioland 3.
