Okay, I finally can haz a 360, I got everything hooked up, set up my XBL account (Gamertag: TsunamiWombat btw). I've downloaded the new XBL update and perused the online shopping place... where's the download for Backwards Compat with original Xbox games? Is that inherent in the Xbox updates, or is there a download I have to select out of the marketplace somewhere?

Sorry for the Noob question, but this is a 500+ dollar investment for me and I take no chances.

If you are asking about playing old XBOX games...

AS long as you got a 360 with a HHD, you are set to go. Just pop game in and play.

Not trying to be a snarky "Why didn't you look here first NOOB" sort of guy, but this should hold the answers.

And as of November 2007 they have stopped working on this. So make sure your game is on this list...

yeah, I have ran into a few games that did not run, nor could you get an update to make it run. So definately check for compatibility first, or you too may lose 5 dollars on an original xbox game that doesn't play.

There's also the PAL version of Panzer Dragoon Orta that has a compatibility update, plays fine till the third level...and then crashes. No such problems with the NTSC or JAP versions, though.

Such a shame, since it's an awesome game.

Area 51 was one of the only Xbox games I ever played and...it's not backwards compatible.

I hate the backwards compatability thing...
Why can't they just design a proper emulator software, and why couldn't they include it for the Arcade version of the Xbox?

Here's another n00b question: Would I have to purchase live service in order to get the reverse-compatability updates?

No. You don't have to purchase gold subscription for anything other than playing online.
