I'll never understand. Mine's been abused for a year, and it's still truckin. It's even fallen over with a disc playing, and there was no ring around the disc. The only problem I've ever had was the RF module came a little loose after I dropped it, and that was solved by banging on the box. Either a lot of people are really unlucky, or my Xbox just likes me.

I've had 6 red rings in 5 months, the worst part was I had a warranty at gamestop which made you renew your warranty if you wanted the new system to be covered(40 bucks each time), so after 2 systems we wound up getting another 360 at bestbuy and ebaying the other. I had started a thread on asking about serious console failures and there was quite a few people with bricked 360's

You can do whatever you want with your 360, I have the utmost respect with whatever you do with your console, but seriously? 6 rings in 5 months?

I've been through 6 xbox's, most 3 red rings and the odd 1 red ring, all pre-owned systems, managed to get a newer replacement (HDMI port, plastic power connector), being running fine for a few months now :)

EDIT: FF13 will be out for both systems at the same time btw
I know, I'm just referring to the people who bought a PS3 before the multi-platform announcement came across. My roommate last year is definitely one of those cases, and another friend ALMOST did it a month ago, and then I mentioned it was multi-plat, so now he's not sure which console to get.

Had mine for over a year coming up two and have had no issues at all and use it a stupidly large amount, I do have a friend however that has had 5 RROD in the last 4 months I can only assume he's trying to use it as a toaster or something.

Sadly I treat my systems very well(dust them, they're not abused), and I didn't buy another, I had a warranty. If I had to buy another one, I would have put my genesis in it's place.

I`ve had two Xboxs break but both for different reasons,I had the first 360 for 17 months and when I bought Halo 3 it came up with a Disk Read Error so I bought a new core system,The second one lasted for 8 months but the power brick would not go on so I had to get a new system but I still had the 1 year warrenty so all was fine.

A friend of mine has a big family, so they got 2 360s (one upstairs, one down for XBL). Both of them got RRoD and needed to be replaced. I just had to laugh, it was so bad.

I just sent mine in a few days ago and after reading your post I am definitely extending my warranty. I am supposed to get it back in less than a week so I am going to cross fingers and hope for the best.

I am so lucky that my Elite never fucked me over. Now let me go knock on every square inch of wood I can find.
Good, cause I got a refund and put it towards an Elite, because apparently the first generation of those are just now starting to get the RRoD, so I have a good 2-3 years in this baby.

I had an elite, got the same e74 error... for whatever reason my brother put in blankets, when it became apparent that wouldn't work, we had to get a new one (no warrarty, and my brother's leaving for the marines soon, so he didn't feel like waiting), we just got a blank one and put our hard drive in it, no errors but that damn thing keeps freezing when i try playing madden, im 44-14 and 8 of my damn losses were because of damn disconnects or xbox freezing... damn xbox

Remember that post about a week ago where I praised GameStop for quick service on replacing my RRoD 360? Well, the "new" one just died on me, giving me the RLoD (not the ring, just one light) and error E74. Tried all the do-it-yourself easy fixes, and none of them work, so I'm out of a 360. Again.

At least I got the warranty again. I'm going to see if I can trade it towards a new (not refurbished) system, because this is just ridiculous.
Ha! Im still on my first 360, and its a launch 360.

Your absolutley right, this IS ridiculous! I hope you dont color me a fanboy for posting this, but if you dont have too many 360 games your attatched to you might wanna consider a swwitch in consoles altogether (even though you could sell the games anyways). I wouldnt normally recommend something like that, but I mean the damn thing has died twice on you in 2 weeks...
Yeah but think about it, his 360 had died TWICE in tow weeks, what are the odds the next one will break? Slim to none.

Just like the odds of people's 360's breaking down six times? "Well, my 360 broke three times in as many weeks, but what are the chances of it breaking a fourth time?"

*breaks down*

"Well, my 360 broke down 4 times on me, but what are the chances of it breaking down again for a fifth time?"

*breaks down again*

Obviously this is the mentality of many 360 owners, the whole "It won't/can't happen to me" business. Believe it or not, Microsoft are selling you a defunct system, and the day you buy a damn 360 could be the day you need to send it in for repairs.

Like I said, if this happend with my PS3, Sony would lose a loyal customer. "Oh, my PS3 broke a fourth time, but what are the odds of it breaking again? Slim to none 'cause it already broke on me four times anyway!"

Yeah....no, I'd sell my PS3 on eBay (okay, maybe that's extreme...) for that kind of atrocity.

Every time I see a post like this it reminds me once again that I have been really lucky with my 360. Two years without any problems at all.

But again, it also reminds me why I feel the need to hold my breath every time I turn the darn thing on.

I do have a friend who's gone through three or four in that same time period though, it makes me wonder how some of us (even if it's a select few) can go years on the same system, yet so many others, possibly even the majority of 360 owners, are constantly boxing them up for repairs.
