I am wanting to get one of the new Xbox 360 slims, with the built in 250GB hard drive. There is an offer at my local store too trade in your old xbox and get money off the new one. The problem is you have to trade in your old hard drive at the same time, which means I can't transfer the data with a transfer kit. I was wondering if you could do it with a USB stick, or is there any other way.
Thank you

discuss with them the possibility of doing a data transfer in store at the time of trade, if you buy a cable with the new machine. they have TVs, and power sockets, they should be able to accommodate if they want the sale.

you can transfer most if not all of your data to a memory card or a friends, either that or just ask if the guy at the store will do it for you.

As far as I'm aware unless you could use another hard drive a USB stick is the best way to go. Of course there's still memory cards but they have less storage anyway. The only thing a USB stick wouldn't be able to hold is installed games, which can easily be reinstalled on the new hard drive anyway. Any DLC that takes up too much memory can be redownloaded too and your profile can be recovered over Xbox Live. So the only things you'd need to transfer other than game saves would be pre-order exclusives or other content only redeemable from a single-use code.

The gamestop offer allows you to take your old hard drive in and apply it towards the credit then take it home with you and transfer your stuff over, you have 7 days to bring it back and likely they will charge your credit card or something.

As well it is easy to transfer the info if you have a transfer cable it works backwards and the system has the software to run the transfer naively on it no need for a disc.

That would take an hour at least though.

So? It's not like someone has to be operating it the whole time, and it wouldn't hurt to ask. If they want to make the sale, they'll do it.

You can use a USB. I transferred my hard drive that way. Took a few trips as it was a small USB.
