So I bought a new 120GB for my 360 to replace my old 20GB one. I bought a transfer cable and everything but the weird thing was is when I transfered the content, it went to my new hard drive but I can only access the data when the transfer cable is still connected to the 360. That wouldn't be a big problem but the thing is it says I only have 14 gigabytes of free space even though I only have 3 gigabytes of data. I'm confused so can someone help me with my strange problem?

Edit: I also have another problem. if I put any hard drive in without the transfer cable, it won't show up and say no storage device found.

did you update your licenses? there are some weird hoops you have to jump through for your DLC, which might be the cause of your problems. i dunno for sure though, not really a good tech person :(

Did you have to format the new hard drive?
yeah why?
Did you mean your 20gb hard drive shows only 17gb? That's normal, it's due to formatting, the same thing happens to the all hard drives.

I'm not sure I understand your problem.
It's kind of hard to explain. I did transfer the data from my 20 gigabyte hard drive to my new one. But the thing is though, from some reason I don't know, I can only access the data when the new hard drive is connected to the transfer cable.

Just a generic computer-related suggestion, but you seem to be accessing the old 360's hard drive through the new XBOX, which may be causing your confusion, I say this because you say it only works when the transfer cable is plugged in. Either that or you simply created a 20 gig virtual drive upon the transfer, and there's 100 gig of unformatted space on the 120 gig drive available. I would start by seeing exactly what the new 360 says you have with nothing plugged into it, and possibly start over.
