I was reading about the netflix-360 thing that's coming with the fall update and how you can invite people to movie parties through live. Anybody know whether everyone in the party has to have a netflix subscription, or if you can just invite anyone?

Yes, they stated that everyone in the party must have a Netflix subscription and an Xbox Live Gold membership.

What, during the press conference? That's really gay. Sort of defeats the purpose, too; if everyone had it, you could just watch it at the same time and be on the chat channel. The 'party' mechanic wouldn't offer anything not already possible.

Well, no, it makes sense. If only one person needed it, Netflix would lose money as only one person in the group would have to pay. And if you were to do what you suggest, then you would also have to synchronize playing/pausing/fast forwarding/rewinding. Personally I can't wait for it.

Can you link that? I thought that the party mode allowed the host (who has a Netflix) the ability to show a screening to the rest of their party.

Being a master moocher myself, it occurs to me that currently I watch other people's NetFlix. And don't even pay money for it! In fact, I would be very suprised if many people got NetFlix just to watch movies by themselves. That would be, as the kids on the street say, "teh suxx0rs."

That said, I'm sure NetFlix would like everyone to pay to watch a single movie. While profitable, I think thats a bit slimy.

That being said, doesn't apple do this already with their renting movies through iTunes?

"Netflix

For now, Netflix will only stream in about-SD resolution.
As Netflix transitions to HD, Microsoft said it stands to reason that streaming HD to the Xbox should be feasible. (Read: eventual.)
Netflix will be for Xbox Live Gold members only, so you'll be paying that $50 per year if you want it.
Netflix video sharing ONLY works with other Netflix / Xbox Live Gold subscribers. You can't share video with a Silver member, or who doesn't subscribe to Netflix.
Microsoft doesn't seem to have concerns about redundant content between Netflix and XBLM, or Netflix cannibalizing XBLM sales. Makes sense -- if you had content available to rent or stream with Netflix, you probably weren't going to pay to rent it on XBLM anyway."
