So i turned on my 360 today and instead of my avatar's smiling face greeting me i was confronted with nothing. Instead two of the red lights were flashing they were the two on the left (in horizontal position, so i guess the top two in the vertical position) I was not able to find anything on this particular configuration of lights so i am basically wondering if anybody knows what's wrong with my xbox and what i should do to get it fixed. Thanks in advance

If it's only two lights then that means your Xbox is overheating. Leave it over night to cool down and play it somewhere with open space and ventilation. If the problem continues, I'd suggest getting a Nyko Intercooler TS, NOT the EX.

I think 2 lights is your plug-ins being the issue. Make sure everything is plugged in correctly. (Sorry, just checked, that's 4 lights :p)

I think this is listed on the Xbox help site. I don't know, but I found it somewhere.

2 lights might be overheat.
I know 4 lights means power source is not fully plugged in.
And 3 lights was described as being the "uncurable problem," which was over-exaggerated and said something along the lines of "ZOMG YOU HAV BEEG PROBLEMZ"

- Overheating

Alternativly Overheating can be cause by the console locking up or "freezing" after a set amount of time. Lockups that occur at a specific point in a game are generally problems with the game itself and not caused by overheating.

THINGS TO TRY
Let the Xbox 360 console cool.
Note You may have to wait several hours for the console to cool enough. Do not turn on the console when the console is hot.
Verify that the console has sufficient ventilation and that the fan is operating. For more information about ventilation, see the "More Information" section.

PREVENTION SUGGESTIONS
To try to prevent this problem, use the following precautions:
Do not block any ventilation openings on the Xbox 360 console.
Do not put the Xbox 360 console on a bed, on a sofa, or on any other soft surface that may block ventilation openings.
Do not put the Xbox 360 console in a confined space, such as a bookcase, a rack, or a stereo cabinet, unless the space is well-ventilated.
Do not put the Xbox 360 console near any heat source, such as a radiator, a heat register, a stove, or an amplifier.

DO NOT EVER PUT YOUR CONSOLE IN THE FREEZER OR OUT IN COLD WEATHER
Some people think that doing this might help "fix" an overheating console, in fact doing so could cause even bigger problems. Electronic devices like your console are made to function at and around room temperature, extreme cold temperatures can often cause just as many problems as extreme warm temperatures (such as overheating). Also if the console is located in a dramatically cold area while running, the difference in temperature between the hot console and cold air can create condensation which in turn will short out your console making the situation far worse. Condensation will happen more quickly if your console is overheating due to the greater difference in temperature. In short... DON'T DO IT.

A more agressive Solution to overheating is to improve the cooling system of the console. The best solution is to replace the thermal compound. If you attempt this you do so at your own risk. If you're console is still underwaranty it is recomended that you contact MS for a replacement before attempting to fix it yourself.

i don't think it's overheating i left it over an air conditioning vent overnight to no avail. also overheating would be signaled by both lights on the left being on while the 360 is vertical.

The lights rotate depending on the orientation of the box. Overheating would be the top two lights, it doesn't matter which position it's in. Your box is over heated/ the insides may be super dusty. Leave it over night, just the air conditioner isn't much to the temp the 360 gets.

Well "The Red Semi-Circle of Death" didn't have the same ring to it.

Happened to a friend of mine as well. We also learned it had to do with over heating. The problem did not cure itself so we cracked it open and gave it thorough cleaning and new, better fans, but when we assembled it and plugged it in again it had the dreaded three lights ...

I suppose. Couldn't they have a had a different symbol? Like your Xbox gets cut in half on screen or something?

Single red light, E74, F...T...L..! And in two or three weeks, I'll be satisfied again...I guess...

Oh, unless there's a warning on your television screen, try unplugging the Xbox's power cable, then plugging it back in. Hold in the cord, press the power button...and pray.
