Recently, whilst playing Fallout 3, my X-Box asked me if I wanted to update the disc. This sort of confused me since I thought that in order to update games, you needed a internet connection. I pressed yes, and suddenly, my WHOLE 360 updated! Before then, I had the original layout, now I have the newest one (with the avatar and whatnot). I ask you, has this happened to anyone else before?

I have LIVE, so I got it as soon as I logged on that day. Never heard about it coming with games, though.

I miss the old dashboard, too.

I really have no idea how it happened. I haven't bought or rented any new games (Fallout I got in December), and the thought of LIVE on my X-Box is laughable.

Yes, don't complain.

But really, what is the point? Does it really trouble you so much that this thread has claimed it's small corner of the forum?

Yes this happens and it is normal games come with patches on them(for some reason) so it's normal and not unusual also you can get updates by burning them onto a cd and putting the cd in your xbox.

It actually does, really. I mean, it's sort of freaking me out. I know "Gaming Discussion" isn't grounds for a Q&A, but I'm really confused as to how this happened.

It was probably aliens. they are forever doing things like this to play with peoples heads.
We must fight back, for the sake of humanity we must kill them all

Makes some sense, seeing as I found the Crashed Anomaly before the notification came up.

Geez, with all these replies, I feel kinda stupid for asking an easy question. Glademaster and Broken Wings answers are the most logical. Sorry for wasting your time, everyone.
Oh yeah, my Fallout 3 files are gone now, fyi.

And that's how you get 1600 posts in less than two months.
This is the first time I've said it.

I've also said "Search Button" and my infamous sense of humour.

HELLO
Sense of humor indeed. And HOW where you put on probation? (I could click the link but I'm lazy.)

Not me. It was a fellow Escapist that warned me and so I went to dbl check and still didn't find a lick of info about it. :(

Update was contained on the disk, some disks may contain the update and will prompt users to update their console. Really it's not that new of a concept, heck even the Wii does it. The update may contain a few fixes to compatibility issues the software may have had when playing the game.
