Capcom Delays Big-Name Games to Avoid Early 2010

It was bound to happen: Capcom has announced delays on three major titles - Lost Planet 2, Super Street Fighter IV, and Monster Hunter Tri because the first half of 2010 is too damn crowded.

If you think back just a few months, you may remember a slew of games that were scheduled to hit shelves this fall - but were pushed back as publishers realized that they would be competing with the juggernaut that was Modern Warfare 2. Instead of trying to vie for consumer awareness with one of the biggest titles of all time (thanks, Kanye), many opted to simply get some extra time to finish their games, pushing a bunch of big-name titles back to early 2010. Surely, the publishers reasoned, they'd benefit from avoiding the packed holiday season and get the new year all to themselves!

Well, maybe - if all of their competitors hadn't decided to do the exact same thing. While not quite as bad as a normal holiday shopping season (and without the looming threat of MewTwo), Q1 2010 is looking pretty damn packed, and it seems like someone at Capcom noticed this.

Rather than compete with games like 2K's BioShock 2, Sega's Bayonetta and BioWare's Mass Effect 2 - and even its own Dark Void - Capcom has thrown up its hands in frustration, muttered "Bother this nonsense," and delayed three of its high-profile titles until fiscal 2010 (April 1st, 2010 - March 31st, 2011). The three games in question are Lost Planet 2, Monster Hunter Tri (but let's face it, despite Capcom's best efforts I can't see that game doing that well in the States) and Super Street Fighter IV.

Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer to once more beat the hell out of cars. But don't worry, because there's still a crapton of stuff coming out in Q1 2010. Unless it all gets delayed, too.

Definitely a good idea. I'm sure everyone's wallet will be light enough in the new year anyway without having X amount of games to buy.

I would have loved to dig my teeth into lost planets other bosses but I guess I can just keep on replaying the salamander over and over.

I don't want any of those games anyway. Next year is all about Bioshock 2 for me and despite expecting it to be a massive disappointment, I'm still expecting it to be a massive disappointment.

First thing I thought when I read this : Not too confident in thier products are they ?

Not that any of the mentioned titles really appealed ...especially as one is a oversized patch of a much hyped title Capcon released earlier (SF IV), next patch will be called Super SF IV Turbo.

At least a million bought the first game, so it's not like it would have been a flop.

WHOOOO! I like this change of events. More cookie cutter "sequels" (/snicker) that I won't have to put up with for a few more months! :D

Party at my house, BBYOB+hookers.

Not that I'm particularly interested in any of capcom's titles listed here but I don't like this train of thinking. What if everyone did that? Nothing is every going to get released.

While I could see why it makes sense from a businesses point of view, it's infuriating from a customer point of view, the game you've been waiting for is already done, but they are holding onto it to milk it for more money?

Though, it could be slightly counter productive, sending the message they aren't confident in their products.

I don't know if it's just me, I'm a vindictive SOB, but when companies pull this kind of crap that's when I start thinking "mmm I was going to buy that... now... I wont / I'll see what other ways there are to get it".

I've done it in the past, I refuse to have any dealing with one a PayTV provider due to how they handled a dispute (very very nasty in the end, none of it my fault, the arbiter came down firmly on my side) almost a decade ago, and I tell them point blank when they come to the door/phone me, I will not deal with you, even though there is no other PayTV provider in the area, I still wont deal with them.

I've done it with other types of companies and service providers too, I vote with my money, piss me off and I simply wont buy off you.

Seems reasonable. I did notice that rather a few games I want are coming out that time.
