It's not like anyone would have bought Lost Planet 2 anyway...
At least a million bought the first game, so it's not like it would have been a flop.
But it's possible that one of the reasons Lost Planet did so well was because it was released at a time when there were no other major releases. It was released around January 2007, and the only thing it had to compete with at the time was WarioWare: Smooth Moves, which was on a different system altogether. I'd wager that if Lost Planet was released around the same time as some other big-name games, it would not have done as well.

Monster Hunter Tri (but let's face it, despite Capcom's best efforts I can't see that game doing that well in the States)
I think it has a pretty good chance to succeed. From what I've seen of the game, there doesn't appear to be any cultural barriers that might prevent it from being a mega-success, as is the case with other popular Japanese games like Dragon Quest. Also, I've heard Nintendo's marketing initiative with this game in the West is going to be huge. Like Pokemon huge. However, I can't seem to find the quote I'm looking for right now, so you may wanna take this with a grain of salt.
