Japanese Gymnast Robot Will Doom Us All

When the robot apocalypse comes, walls will not hinder our cruel mechanical destroyers, provided they learn how to land of course.

Japanese robot enthusiast and YouTube video maker Hinamitetu [http://www.youtube.com/user/hinamitetu] has constructed a robot capable of swinging on a horizontal beam from a standing - well, hanging - start. From what little I can glean from the video, it would appear that this is the fourth iteration of the robot, which Hinamietu has apparently constructed in a large closet or basement judging by the clothes hanging up on the right hand side.

No need to panic though, because as you can see from the video, the robot hasn't quite got the hang of landing just yet. But when it does, we've lost another defense against the robot horde as they brachiate across flagpoles and through trees so they can enslave us and force us to toil in their solar mines.

It is a grim future we have ahead of us...

Does anyone else find it suspicious that the Japanese have started building so many robots with human capabilities recently? They might be planning to take over. Someone watch out for when they start making working Gundams.

I don't feel threatened by this robot. I'm more threatened by the fact that he built this in a closet. Seriously, what's next? Nukes in a Closet? (starring Samuel L. Jackson)

Oh my.

If you don't mind me I'm going to go buy a nuclear power plant, and a couple hundred thousand microwaves, and start modding them so that they can turn on with the door open...

Gotta improve my barricade...

I'm still waiting for a robot that would actually do more than just one specific thing.

I mean honestly, when the robot apocalypse comes, do you expect one unit to hold the gun, second to aim, third to reload and fourth to shout obscene remarks at us?

That thing's pretty damn cool. Luckily it doesn't appear to have any AI yet, just an automated sequence... Unless it's SO clever it can hide it from us.

You know, after looking at that, I have a feeling that we'll be okay when Skynet takes over. :p

Have you seen the giant Gundam model in Japan? Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if that became animate and takes Korea hostage.

solar mines
Um.

Mines are underground. And, uh, sunlight doesn't go through... wait, wait.

So, you are saying that robots will be using us to mine raw materials for their solar "things", thus you are just being all hip and cool and using the slang "solar mines" when you meant "solar material mines"?

Or are you saying that robots will be able to make sunlight go through opaque surfaces?

Darn! I was going to reference the 1:1 scale Gundam model in Japan. It could all be a ruse. I don't want to die to something inspired by a cartoon!

I'm just waiting for Ghost in the Shell to become reality. When it does, I'll be first in line for a full-body prosthetic. If I can't beat our new robotic overlords, I'll join them! :p

Until the TX is a reality, humankind will reign over the planet. (Until the TX's seduce the men-folk.)

Of course I have. I've been calling dibs on Tallgeese III every time Funk makes an article about that thing.
