What tactic? People were saying that they weren't going to fall for it again, then Nintendo cuts back on stock because they think that it'll be like the 3DS launch, then people overorder anyway. If anything, confusing consumer demand (say one thing, do another) is the culprit, and I'm not really mad at anybody except for the fact that they had to go forward with the ad campaign/instore demos anyway just because they were locked into the deal regardless of the circumstances.

Even if Nintendo does do great it's not as if anybody will actually take back what they said.

Interesting. I mean, what does this actually mean? I like my 3DS, but the titles that have been coming out since I got it this past summer are almost entirely disappointing. How are they going to support it? And what exactly does that mean to people who already have it? If supporting it doesn't mean trying to get more software put out on it, then this statement is stupid and useless.

Pre-orders sold out? Why not make a point of the demand for the Wii-U and have more available? The scarcity of the Wii at launch worked in its favour, I don't know if the same tactic will work again.

It's like trying to break atwo different safes with the same rock.
They said this time that they made more WiiU's available at launch then Wii's at launch. If the WiiU is already sold out, then it's not Nintendo's fault this time.

OT: I don't need a 3DSxL, I have a 3DS already. And I love it.
That's a fair point, but to me it seems like they are giving up guaranteed sales for the chance of expanding 3DS sales. I think with the recent hit to their stock that is would a smarter move to report record breaking launch sales. 3DS' are sold at a loss too.

There is finally a substantial library with the 3DS with the addition of Paper Mario and Professor Layton. Both of them are spectacular titles. Now, give us Animal Crossing already!
