3ds seem to cost about $100 to make

$60 is still plenty of room for them and the retailer to make some money
Those analyses are almost always lowballing. 56 dollars isn't a lot when you factor in distribution and the like, actually.

Not to mention the retailer rarely makes more than a few cents in markup. Maybe a buck or two if they're lucky. Throwing the retailer in there is really naive.

your kidding right retailers always take there cut
standard retail markup on electronics is about 10%
cheep clothing is 90%(its why you always see something for 50%+ off and yea there still making money on that)

Kind of expected this to happen. 3D is cool now, 3DS is 3D. Christmas is coming. Kids need presents. Kids like video games. Kids really, really like Mario.

Hmmm....

Buy the kids Kinects!
Seems like a great idea.

OT: Even though there weren't any great 3D games for it when released, I bought it anyway, cause I got Pokemon Black half off.

%5 for consoles.

No, I'm not kidding.

Standard markup on electronics is about 10%. Standard does not mean universal. It is not true of video games. This is one of the flaws in the current market and also why Gamestop switched to their used games model. I've worked retail and video games (especially consoles themselves) are some of the lowest markups you can get.

thanks for the exact number(i just sorta assumed consoles used the same markup as the rest of the stuff) as you can see i dont work in the electronics section
anyway its not like stores are ever willing to give $160 items away for penny that's just silly

Nintendo is making more money around the Holidays.

I could make a sarcastic comment about how totally unexpected this is, but fuck that.

This is a very normal occurance.

Aaaaaand...I still don't want one.

I still think the 3DS is just a DS with fancy graphics. So far, the only game I'd be interested in playing is Mario Land. Ocarina of Time is the 5699889273th remake of this decade, same with Star Fox, RE: Mercenaries is not that awesome...Driver, Street Fighter, BlazBlue...eh!

I congratulate Nintendo for lowering the price almost immediately after its release. it shows they care, at least. Its competitors could learn a thing or two from this.

And yet, I still don't care about the system. I have no interest in 3D. I know I can turn it off, but by buying this system, we enforce the concept that people actually like 3D. And that's something I'm refusing to do.

If they had done all that at launch they would have MORE money, seriously, how do corporations not get it? Make decisions that help us, not disappoint us, and we will buy your crap (looking at you $120 PS Vita memory card)

...So it's like every other console iteration ever (at least handhelds)?

Considering they cut the price of the 3DS by 30% I hardly think it's printing anything but losses per console sold for Nintendo.

Can't be enough when Nintendo is projecting a billion dollar loss anyways.

Exactly. This is why I didn't even bother buying a DS and I'm still happy with my Game Boy Micro.

Sure, the DS has some nice games and the main thing is that it added the touch screen feature. But eh, I guess I would rather spend my money on a big console. That's just me.

I'll probably pick up a 3DS when a Majora's Mask remake is announced. Then keep myself occupied until its release with the Ocarina of Time remake! Its the perfect system!
But... the limited edition Zelda 3DS is available now.... There are no games out I currently want, and I'm still considering buying it because it looks so cool.

I'll wait and see what happens when they release the next model of the 3DS. The DS didn't really take off until the Lite, and I'm guessing at some point soon Nintendo are going to release the next model of 3DS with two analogue nubs. I'm guessing that's when the 3DS will really start selling, and I may get myself one.
Didn't Nintendo already go on the record as saying that won't be happening for the foreseeable future, as the 3DS is already "packed" full with its components? Also, They're releasing a peripheral to add a second analog stick and extend battery life some time next year to coincide with the release of a Monster Hunter game.

Don't even think about getting a 3DS before its next iteration is released.
Else, you'll have to play future AAA titles with this:

Edit: I've overlooked the posts that already discussed the matter, but hey, now you're able to visualize what we're talking about.

Wow, that was fast. Even with the right system and all. Awesome!

But yeah: Nintendo stuff is really the kind of stuff for Christmas etc.
Honestly, yeah, it is. Nintendo has captured the "for kids" part of the market better than the other "big two" have, and I can only imagine that their will be a ton of 3DS's under the trees this year.

I'll probably pick up a 3DS when a Majora's Mask remake is announced. Then keep myself occupied until its release with the Ocarina of Time remake! Its the perfect system!
The MM remake is coming after the next proper 3DS zelda game so you may be waiting a VERY long time for that remake.
If it comes at all, consiering it is just a fan request, which Nintendo enjoy ignoring.
Aonuma kind of brought it up and hinted that he wanted to do it and asked for fan support, got the fan support, and then acknowledged the fan support saying he hoped to be able to do it sometime in the future. They aren't totally ignoring that fans are interested.
