3DS price drop coming early?

Are you planning on getting the Nintendo 3DS once the price drop takes affect? If so, you may want to do so at Walmart. According to cheapassgamer, a trusted inside source has told him that they will drop the price on the 9th, not the 12th. This gives you a couple of days to connect to the eshop and still get the 20 free games later this year.

According to a trusted source, Walmart will be dropping the price of the Nintendo 3DS on August 9th, 3 days before the official drop takes effect. This means savvy shoppers will be able to get the new low price and the 20 free downloadable games available as a reward to early adopters of the 3DS. Just connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11 to qualify for the free games.

For those planning to get it, don't pass up this opportunity. Free classics and the reduced price...what's not to like?

For those who weren't, would the 20 free games and the reduced price persuade you? Just curious.

I can't help but think that I'll be better off waiting for the inveitable 3DSi, if they're reducing the price of the 3DS, that must mean it's on its way.

Isn't it a little early to be dropping the price though? The stores in my area are almost always sold out, and the game lineup is less than impressive.

Yeah, gonna agree with this. The first DS turned out to be the best DS, but considering how shoddily built the 3DS is I'll just wait for the 3DSi.

Apparently, Nintendo isn't happy with the way it's selling right now (which, from what I understand, is actually better than the DS and PSP when they were at this point, with holiday sales, but whatever), so this is just countering the complaints about the high price. And, even though they won't admit, they most likely wanted to undercut the PSV in advance.

And, yeah, there's not a huge list of must have games yet, but it's only been out a few months. Every system is like this. There's only a handful of games I like on the platform, but it was a long time before I found anything I wanted on the 360 (Oblivion was my first game).

Hells to the yeah I'm picking that up...assuming of course the rumor turns out to be true. I just checked out Walmart's website and according to that the price isn't dropping until the 12th. Maybe it's in-store only...I'm hoping that's the case.
