So I currently have a Vita with a 250 MB plan and while serfing the net it said: "Your 250 MB of Data for 30 days rate plan has 20% data of the plan remaining."

But all I had been doing is just serfing the net and never downloaded anything. Does that mean just serfing the net uses up MB? I mean I just got the 3G last thursday (but was at home the weekend) and really only began to use it on monday...

So how exactly does it work? Does each site use up MB every so bit you're on it?

...Every website or request you make while on the internet(World Wide Web) will download data and the amount of data per website will vary and vary more on the web designer's approach to the web design (lower res, higher compression,less images and content for a more data friendly website).

Also, some sites have a horrible habit of continuously synchronising every so often which will eat more data but you get this more from social networking sites and Email accounts however thankfully it's only a mere few kbs.

Web pages are more content intensive than what they were back in the way back when. If you been viewing Escapist videos, they clock in at around 20mb each, so that 250mb will get chewed up pretty quickly.

I have this problem with my normal internet, it makes downloading steam games a real *****.

A page thats fairly simple like tv tropes ,not many videos etc won't go through fast but the escapist will what with all the video ads on everypage.
