F.E.A.R. 3 Details Leaked Online

An anonymous source has leaked some seriously spoilerrific information about F.E.A.R. [http://www.amazon.com/F-E-R-3-Xbox-360/dp/B003GSZ9ZE/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280160742&sr=1-1] franchise, and I don't want to say too much so I'll just say this: Paxton Fettel.

Consider yourself warned: If this is legit, and it certainly appears to be, then it carries serious spoilers about the next F.E.A.R. title in the works at Marcus Nispel [http://www.lith.com/], who has previously helmed feature films like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, the Friday the 13th remake and the upcoming Conan remake. (Yes, he seems to like remakes.)

And now, the spoilers: F.E.A.R. 3 will bring back the three central characters from the original game: The Point Man, Paxton Fettel and the immeasurably powerful, vengeance-obsessed Alma Wade, who's making her "final bid for the destruction of mankind." This time, however, it looks like the Point Man - the hero of F.E.A.R. - has gone over to the Dark Side.

"It is revealed that he is, in fact, one of [Alma's] sons, and has turned his allegiance to her," the casting call says. Meanwhile, his younger brother is back and more powerful than ever. "Paxton has the mystical power to control battalions but instead likes to incorporate himself inside one body at a time and use them in battle until killed," it continues. "He revels in the bloodbath he and his brother, Point Man, engage in with the Armacham troops, but he is most excited about the delivery of the latest member of the family..."

Oh yes, about that. If you were fortunate enough to witness the absolutely insane, trauma-inducing ending of F.E.A.R. 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Fear-2-Project-Origin-Playstation-3/dp/B00163LW7K/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280160772&sr=1-1], you'll know what Fettel is all worked up about: Alma is pregnant and what she's carrying in her womb is most certainly not a good thing.

Of course, this is all purely conjecture: Plans for a new F.E.A.R. game haven't even been acknowledged at this point. Nonetheless, I'm seriously stoked. The Point Man is back - but is he bad, too? How did Paxton Fettel survive? Are the Jankowski boys really dead? Will Becket make an appearance? And what the hell has Rowdy Betters been doing all this time, anyway? Stay tuned!

Now this is some seriously interesting stuff. Sounds like F.E.A.R. 2's protagonist is going to be going against F.E.A.R. 1's protagonist! Intriguing. Now if they can just refine the combat and improve the story, I might be seriously interested in this. Let's hope this news is legit.

Wow that sounds....good

I never rated the plot too much but bringing back the best guy from fear 1 and making the pointman a baddie sounds great. If it works out half as well as it sounds it could be like some Natural born killers meets the exorcist thing going on. (meets the matrix)

Dear Monolith,

Please include an option to turn off the 'tripping over your shoelaces' headbob effect.

I love the F.E.A.R. games, all of them, and this doesn't look to disappoint.

How did Paxton survive? Maybe it's time to go play the DLC for F.E.A.R. 2. Here's a hint, it's called, "F.E.A.R. Reborn". Or maybe you just want a more complete explanation about how exactly he did that? Okay, that's a legit question...

Yeah, I'm excited. Ive always liked F.E.A.R. Solid combat with one of the most memorable weapons ive ever used (Penetrator/Hammerhead), a good, creepy story that isn't so involved it detracts from the action, and some truly spooky set pieces. Of course, I am a huge sucker for the creepy, invincible ghost girl with black bangs covering her face (Oh no, Im about to ruin your day! http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StringyHairedGhostGirl ). I gotta admit, I am very curious about what exactly Alma has in mind with her baby.

If I recall correctly,

The official F.E.A.R. guide heavily implies that Alma is pregnant with the Antichrist.

Whether this is canon or not or whether this will apply for the sequel is something I don't know, though.

Personally, I found myself relating more and more with Alma and Fettel in the first game, so I think the Point Man switching sides is actually a very logical course in the progression of the series.

That being said, Monolith had better let Vivendi handle the gameplay this time--I loved the first game (and even the two expansion packs), but FEAR 2 was an utter disappointment.

Played the second one, but have yet to play the first. Should probably get on it.

Yes, it's true, I've never played Reborn. Truth be told, I just finished FEAR 2 itself last week. Very coincidental timing. I'll probably snag it when I've got some free time.

But yeah, man! FEAR 3! STOKED! I hope it's real too. I absolutely loved FEAR and while FEAR 2 couldn't compare to that, it was still damn good. Must have more!

That certainly seems likely, considering that Snake Fist referred to Alma as "The Mother of the Apocalypse".

I was hugely disappointed by FEAR 2, especially with where they took the story (read my review here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.87940-F-E-A-R-2-Project-Origin-One-step-forward-two-steps-back#1334794]. Note that I was being overly kind to the combat because I didn't want to appear too negative), but I have to say that this intrigues me. I swore Never Again after FEAR 2, but I may have to pick up FEAR 3 after all if this turns out to be true.

...But will there be sex in it?

Joking aside, I am very confused as to how a dead person can have sex, let alone get pregnant. That just makes all the Moaning Myrtle jokes all the more sinister.

Aaand now I just threw up in my mouth.

Am I the only one who doesnt see the appeal in the F.E.A.R series? I own the first, its expansions and downloaded a demo of #2, the gameplay is terribly repetitive/generic/monotonous/other similar words.

Play 5 minutes and you've effectively played the entire series, with the exception of the odd slightly cool horror moment. It's not so much 'bad' or broken, just extremely dull..

Absolutely. I haven't beaten F.E.A.R. 2 yet because it was without the gameplay I loved the first games for.

I can see there been another game in the francise. The cliffhanger us there...plus nothing gets grown men running faster than Alma stalking you lol.

I wouldn't mind seeing another installment

I played FEAR 2 to completion at someone's house when I was on holiday and the ending was very weird.

RAEP

Makes me wonder what's in store for the FEAR 2 protagonist.
