Personally, I found myself relating more and more with Alma and Fettel in the first game, so I think the Point Man switching sides is actually a very logical course in the progression of the series.
I don't know about that, in the first expansions Alma and Paxton send the whole world against him, though for reasons unexplained Alma does save him at one point. But at the end they questionably kill Point Man which leads to the world being engulfed in an apocalypse type seen, which sort of implies that he was the last force in the world that could stop her.

I really hope Point Man doesn't turn to the dark side. If I were making the game I'd have Alma trying to replace Point Man with her new child. You play as the protagonist from the second game for a majority of the time, he gets offed and Point Man makes a grand entrance as a force of good and you have an epic all out battle with Alma for the fate of the world.

Thinking about it further...Alma is against Paxton returning in Reborn, so I'm really curious if maybe she just hates both her sons and it is going to be some crazy 3 way battle.

Absolutely. I haven't beaten F.E.A.R. 2 yet because it was without the gameplay I loved the first games for.
I managed to beat it, but I was far from impressed. It took out all the elements of gameplay I really liked, the story was weak, I dunno, just all around regret purchasing that game.

Spoilers much?

Still haven't played any of the FEAR games but I really want to so I might try them out before trying out this game.

Joking aside, I am very confused as to how a dead person can have sex, let alone get pregnant.
The same way she turns all those soldiers into charred skeleton by looking at them: Psychic power overrides the laws of physics.

I guess psychic power is the new "magic does freakin' everything" rule to lazy writing.

Alma isn't a ghost, she's a psychic mental image of herself. I guess that kinda is like a ghost but she's able to interact with people and if someone has a strong psychic power she is able to interact with them on a physical level, aka RAPE!!!

Probably too left field to see reality... but I want FEAR to have a happy ending.

get her baby(s) back is the driving theme from the first one, it would be quite cool to see her plans for her erm... brod to be a really tangental way of getting back a life and a clean soul as it were.

As is the running theme in FEAR, you fail to complete your objective properly. Alma gets 'her baby' and... disappears off into the real world a generic human like everyone else to live her life. After all that you were wrong, all the death and chaos you were all wrong trying to stop her, she ultimately wants to create life... awww... (yes awww, trail of vapourised corpses not withstanding)

Not going to happen, seeing as the innocent victim aspect of Alma seems to have been dropped in favour of more and weirder body horror (they coulda had both, just saying). But I would like the whole of the FEAR series plot to turn out to be grand folly that paints the player as the bad guy at the end.

Maybe a bit much to ask of Monolith's writers, but nobody would see it coming.

I lost interest when they sexualized a dead/immaterial girl in advertizing so you'd feel better about getting raped by her.

Yeah...FEAR 1 was amazing...FEAR 2...felt so generic...

But the mention of Fettel...man that guy rocked in FEAR 1...maybe the franchise can still be saved...dude was the right amount of villain, right amount of creepy...

Not to mention the change of what constitutes a scare. To say nothing of the fact that they stopped using Child Alma in favor of the much less creepy Teenage Alma, all the scares became "OH MY GOD, LOOK AT THIS GHOST OVER HERE! NOW IT'S CHARGING YOU! ISN'T THAT SCARY?", as opposed to the first game's emphasis on subtler and more psychological horror. I may be biased because FEAR was my first horror game, but the infamous Ladder Scare and the ending (to give a better idea, "I know who you are") cemented it as the scariest game I've ever played.

I know what you mean. It wasn't even so much that he did scary things (though he did), but more because he was clearly insane...and yet, his words began to make more and more sense the further you went into the game, know what I mean?

Joking aside, I am very confused as to how a dead person can have sex, let alone get pregnant. That just makes all the Moaning Myrtle jokes all the more sinister.

Aaand now I just threw up in my mouth.
Well, according to the F.E.A.R. wiki and other sources, Alma is apparently the most psychic individual on Earth, whjch is the whole reason why Armacham wanted to use her to make babies. She's basically a demigod in terms of the things she's capable of.

Point-man's gone over to the dark side? Didn't the end of F.E.A.R. essentially have him more or less rejecting Alma with all the fighting her off he did? I suspect some foul-play on the part of either Alma, Fettel or Armacham if this is true.

Basically, what I loved in the first games was taken out of F.E.A.R. 2. Leaning, holstering your weapon was really all it took to make me love the game. It felt a lot more immersive because I could holster my weapon, and not constantly wave it around. I'd holster it whenever I had cleared an area. That alone made it above any other FPS that was out. I felt more like a special operative trying to figure out what exactly is going on, rather than your typical shoot first, ask questions later kind of guy.
And leaning, that's just a must for FPS now. Nothing feels more retarded than sidestepping out of cover to take a shot. Yet games seem to decline. I'm looking at you Bad Company 2, Modern Warfare 2, Far Cry 2. Christ, what's going on in the game developers' heads these days.

One word: Consoles.

All those games you mention are developed for consoles and the PC is just a port-over.
Leaning has never been intended for console FPS's because it make things too complicated (for console players anyway) so yes, there you have the reason you were looking for

I feel like F.E.A.R. is now suffering from Indigo Prophecy Syndrome just from reading some of this stuff...just putting that out there. And I know that sounds weird considering the subject matter but I think there's a difference between crazy psychic stuff and
Alma carrying the anti-christ

Here here!

The second F.E.A.R. was a lame console port and just didn't feel anything like the original. I found it difficult to get into it, and I passed it up after being EXTREMELY disappointed with the demo. I'm planning on picking it up on a Steam deal or in a bargain bin if I really feel like playing it - ever.

it's not even worth getting on sale, even if they have it for 2 bucks. the demo was honestly WAY better than the game itself, the story is absolute crap, and the game just honestly feels like more of a chore than anything. save yerself the time, money and hassle.

... No kidding. Man that is sad when consoles force games to take steps back.

Really? That bad huh? Well, I may just steer clear of it altogether then. I had heard it was bad, and I had originally intended to pass it over completely. In a moment of curiousness, I thought it might be fun to try.

I've heard too many people tell me pretty much what you just told me, so I think I will just skip it completely.
