Shatner to Star in Twitter Sitcom

William Shatner, pop culture icon and the original Captain Kirk, is to play the titular Dad in the pilot of Sh*t My Dad Says, the TV sitcom inspired by a Twitter feed.

It's almost too weird to be true, Captain Kirk in a sitcom based on a Twitter feed, but weird or not, it's entirely true. The rise of @shitmydadsays [http://twitter.com/shitmydadsays] can best be described as meteroic. Originally started back in August by 29 year old Justin Halpern to record the funny things his 73 year old father said, gems such as "You worry too much. Eat some bacon... What? No, I got no idea if it'll make you feel better, I just made too much bacon."

In just a few short months the feed has has attracted more than one million followers and was optioned for a sitcom by CBS in November. The pilot of Shit My Dad Says, which will mirror the background of the twitter feed, a 29 year old forced to move back in with his aging parents and will be retitled should it become a regular show, will star William Shatner as the slightly-crotchety, plain-talking father, and is co-written and co-produced by Halpern.

When I first saw this, the first thought that came to my mind was:
"Oh, How The Mighty Have Fallen"
Well, here's to hoping it doesn't destroy him! Hell, it has a shot at being funny, perhaps...

In after obligatory Twitter hate.

The @ shitmydadsays feed is funny, and I think they could've gotten a better crotchety old man to play the part, I do look forward to seeing the character on the screen, and seeing Shatner doing something besides advertisements.

Fixed that for you ;)

Anywho, could be interesting, could be good, but probably won't. We'll have to see. Or rather, you'll have to see as I live in the UK and won't see it unless its successful.

Wait, what happened to Boston Legal then?
I'm pretty sure ABC dropped them a year or two ago. I was angry because I loved that show.
I think this show could be funny because I think Shatner is hilarious.

Can't wait to see this crash and burn.
I'm gonna have to agree, although I don't hate Twitter. It's just that, well, goddamnit they're basing a sitcom on a twitter feed!? It'll probably be as lame as "Married with Children".

If it was anyone but Shatner, I'd be mocking it's very existence mercilessly. But I think this show could actually work with him at the helm. After all, he was the single best part of Boston Legal.

Somehow I doubt a handful of funny quotes on Twitter is going to make for a good half hour sitcom.
