See WoW in 3D at PAX East

If you're going to PAX East, you have something else to look forward to other than chilling with Escapist staff: Blizzard will be there helping Nvidia show off its 3D gaming technology with its juggernaut MMOG.

There are plenty of reasons to be looking forward to PAX East: It's the biggest gaming carnivale to be held on the East Coast (and hopefully a harbinger of things to come), a bunch of awesome people are going to be there from The Escapist, and you'll get to check out the latest and greatest games, many of which aren't even out yet.

But now there's another reason: According to Blizzard community rep 3D Vision [http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=23767609067] technology. Interestingly enough, Nvidia's game of choice to demo its 3D technology is WoW, which raises some questions: Why use a six-year-old game with visibly aged graphics as opposed to something new and shiny? Is it just for consistency's sake? Is it because more gamers are likely to be familiar with it?

Whatever the case, it sounds like Nvidia will also be doing a "world's first 3D Theatre presentation on an 80 foot screen" on Friday, and I can only hope that'll also be with WoW. I mean, think about it: WoW, in 3D, on an 80-foot screen? Where else are you ever going to see that again?!

See what again? A game that happens to be the most played game, which at the same time has the attribute of countable polygons? Really amazing...
..
Well it's actually quite impressive. But in a bad way.

Maybe they'll show nothing but cut scenes. Unless they want the reaction to be "Yes, and...?

...couldn't they have picked something more exciting to show off the technology with? I mean there are literally hundreds of games in 3D that would be more exciting to show off the 3D-Vision technology with than WoW.

Course knowing me I'll go and try to see it anyway just for the spectacle so maybe I shouldn't complain.

I rather keep my hopes up for Ati's version of 3d gaming. By the looks of it, it's gonna be better and cheaper too.

Truthfully, if I ever become a billionaire I don't plan to spend all the money on all the stuff Evander Holyfield did, but I would very much like to have a house like the one he bought. Except instead of a bowling alley, I'd create a SECOND movie theater enviroment with an 80' or larger screen to play video games on. I've had dreams about having a set up like that since I was like 8. :p

At any rate, if there are any billionaires out there on their last gasp, lacking an heir, and looking for something to do with their money, feel free to leave it to me. As I can tell from the above I'd make responsible use of it. 109 room mansion, 80' screen video game room... and insane amounts of interest to support it all. ;)

I got to use them with Resident Evil 5 at last year's PAX. It's a neat gimmick, but I wouldn't shell out cash for it. 3d is not as immersive as people like to pretend it is.

Just imagine what all those expense monitors will look like when all the 3d sensitive gamers out there projectile vomit their hot pockets and red bull all over them.
