Splinter Cell: Conviction Delay on PC Not Due to DRM

Ubisoft says that in spite of what we may think, the delay of the PC version of Splinter Cell: Conviction [http://www.amazon.com/Clancys-Splinter-Cell-Conviction-Xbox-360/dp/B000SQ5LQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278694472&sr=1-1] has nothing to do with its notorious new DRM system.

The new Splinter Cell: Conviction was originally slated for release on April 13 and if you're an Xbox 360 owner that still holds true, but headaches [http://www.ubi.com] since it debuted, might have something to do with it.

Not so, the company said today. "The reason that has been given for the delay is that the extra time was needed to polish and debug the game," a Ubisoft spokesperson told Eurogamer [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/pc-conviction-delay-not-drm-related]. "The slip has not been linked to the DRM."

Still polishing and debugging two weeks before a game is scheduled to be in stores? Call me a cynic if you will, but I'm not really seeing how that's much better than just admitting to wonky DRM. Two weeks isn't much and it'll be time well spent if it means a few less bumps in the road, but last-minute delays like this always leave me a bit nervous.

I am sure it will have its time with DRM when it is released and no one is able to register it...

Working on a game 2 weeks before it comes out? It must be rather important if they can't just do the notorious 1.01 day 1 patch.

Sounds like BS to me, "polish and debug" the PC version that can crap out at any second because of the DRM. I'm SURE it has nothing to do with that. Uh huh.

Thanks for admitting its just buggy and unpolished.

I will never buy a new Ubisoft game again.

Of course not, they would have put that crap in months ago, they already said it will have it. 2 weeks to iron out bugs does not help me anyway if I cannot play it, which given the previous trouble many other Australians have had with this DRM I probably would not be able to.
I probably would have bought it for xbox anyway, since splinter cell has always been better with a controller, but I m not going to bother supporting them now.

OH SNAP!

True, what with the constant failure of their servers. Or theses cyber-terrorism attacks they blame it on.

Uhhh... yeah... the game should have gone gold by now. If anything they'd release a patch for that. So okay, I basically don't believe that at all.

Yeah, I don't want to support them either. From now on, if I absolutely must have one of their games, I'll either borrow a friend's copy (like I did for Assassin's Creed 2), or buy used so they don't see a cent of it.

What's the point in polishing when no one can play because of ridiculous DRM?

Also, being PC gamers we're generally inclined to receive systems specs sometime prior to release - they seem to be holding those back for no particular reason.

How would you "polish and debug" a game which has already been mastered, disks burned, packaged, and are likely already in boxes waiting shipment to retailers?

The code was final weeks ago. And now two weeks before release they need to... fix some stuff?

Yeah. At least they realize that bugs and lack of polish are still better than their DRM scheme.

Breaking News:

Ubisoft now says every game they ever made was perfect, and they ride to and from work each day on flying fucking unicorns.

I am at the point of not caring anymore. I love Splinter Cell and have had every game since the first one. I was crazily excited about ConViction from the first videos in the old engine. I was sad at the delays. And now I'm not buying it. The DRM puts me off the PC version and Microsoft's sub-standard service to non-Gold subscribers means I havn't dusted off my 360 in months.

So no ConViction for me until either the DRM falls or a PS3 version comes out :(

Lol, as if they are important enough for people to even BOTHER to mess with their servers

Thats actually a really good point. The game will have been getting burned and boxed for weeks

What are they going to do with all those copies?

Patch 1.01 will be released on launch day, and it will implement a new version of the Ubi DRM[footnote]i.e. loads more triggers to fox the pirates and ensures the server always is unavailable when you launch the game.[/footnote].

Ubisoft debug pc games? That's news to me i honestly though they just ported them from console and that was it judging by how badly most of them run.
