Miyamoto Believes His Best is Yet to Come

The man responsible for the videogame industry's most recognizable icons says he hasn't done his best work yet.

After creating Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Wii Music (joke) amongst other top Nintendo titles, you would think that Nintendo's 57 year old Shigeru Miyamoto is out of good ideas. However, according to him, the innovation in present and future Nintendo consoles and handhelds means that the best is yet to come.

In an interview with GamesTM (via MCV [http://www.mcvuk.com/news/38434/Miyamoto-My-best-is-yet-to-come]), Miyamoto said that he never dreamed he would be working on titles like those Nintendo has recently developed. "In the past five years I've been working on such unusual titles like Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort," he said. "Ten years ago I could never have been able to imagine that I would be making games like that. That's why I can say that the best is yet to come to me."

Just as players of Pong in the 1970s never thought they'd be playing games like God of War III, Miyamoto never thought as he was creating Mario that Nintendo would eventually release machines like the Wii, DS, and whatever the 3DS [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/99347-Nintendo-Reveals-New-3D-Handheld/] will be, on which he can create completely unique experiences. Miyamoto expects this to continue in the future, even though he still won't reveal what Nintendo's next home console might be able to do.

When asked about the Wii HD yet again, Miyamoto replied: "Technology is always evolving and Nintendo, just like other companies, is going to integrate those technologies into our new products as they develop. Whether that be a Wii HD, Wii 2 or an entirely new console, I am not in a position to say at the moment. I think that in the next generation of hardware, the challenge is how unique and different a product Nintendo is able to make." Reading between the lines, we can see that Miyamoto is saying the Zii will hook up to our brains and cause us to hallucinate, truly bringing videogames into reality and making controls as easy as strangling your Koopa Troopa neighbor.

Miyamoto also said that he'd love to see a new Starfox game for the Wii, but offered nothing else other than this statement of desire. It's a pity that this awesome Nintendo series has no foreseeable future, but if Miyamoto likes it maybe Starfox has a chance at life again someday.

I want to believe, and it's Shiggy so I wouldn't be surprised if he came up with more awesome stuff, but when he's mentioning Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort as examples the future looks... disappointing.

Starfox...

Yeah, we need more starfox.

Still, he might be able to come up with something...

I guess he's into unusual stuff these days though. Who knows where that will lead.

Hard to rehash Starfox imo, but then we had NSMB.

I bet by "Best is yet to come" he meant the new Zelda, or Metroid.

Ach, sometimes I regret moving away from Nintendo to go to Sony's bank...

Sometimes...

Then I remember Wii Music.

I want a new star fox that is a mixed style of Star Wars Battlefront Ground Combat, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron air dogfighting.

As much as I love the nintendo franchises and attended many midnight openings, I am of late very disappointed with nintendo and therefore miyamoto. I am left to interpret his claim as one of two things:

Best is yet to come OR Best scam idea to come to make more $
Best is yet to come OR Best remake/rehash to to make more $

Though many may find this insulting, I must declare now that I would love to be proven wrong.

Bring back Starfox! Do a barrel roll! Use the boost to get through, and all that jazz! If Miyamoto wants it, Nintendo is forced to obey. That's how this works, right? :D

Still waiting on StarFox to get back into his Arwing, Shiggy. And if the best is yet to come, well, I'll be eagerly anticipating it. Can't wait.

Another "Vehicles only" Starfox, like StarFox 64!!! ^-^
ROB: A bomb has been planted at the base
Fox: Geez! Can anyone take care of it?
*Suddenly*
Wolf: Can't let you do that, Star Fox!
(I swear, that made me go 'WTH?', the first time!)

Well, he is been ambitious. After all he has done for the industry and he thinks he can do better?

Well, if anyone can...I am sure he can! Bring it on and let us see the epic-ness!

Your best better be DAMN GOOD, Miyamoto.

In my opinion Miyamoto's best has already come and gone. While I respect the guy for what he's done over the years, I think that he's losing steam. If Wii Music proved anything to me it's that dear old Shigeru may be getting a little old for this. Again my opinion though.
