I always thought this was a strange symptom of our culture, we see a homeless guy out on the street begging for change, we just keep walking. See another one with a dog, and we give his dog something.
I doubt this guy would've got anything if they had no pets.
I think it's called 'animal worship' and it starts up in declining societies.
That's not really what happened here at all. I mean, there are millions of people out there that could use the money, this person didn't get it because of 'animal worship' though, they got it because they posted a picture that helped to make their situation more detailed and harder to ignore. The story was in a very real sense humanized by the picture of a couple dogs. We've all been broke before. It sucks, but you just have to deal with it, but to be unable to care for creatures that you're responsible for is something more real. Nobody thinks the dogs are more important than people, but it was a real person with real problems that received the help.
Sure there are people with worse problems out there, and sure there were more efficient ways of helping out, but fuck efficiency. Nobody actually cares about all that garbage, what people do care about though is helping others. If being inefficient is what it takes to get people to do that, then I'm fine with it.
It's funny how cynics can find an excuse to make anything sound bad, but this was nothing but kindness and generosity.
