there are 120 ways to press the buttons.
Where does your logic come from?
Sorry left it out to be first.

Explanation:
When you press the button for the first time, you have five different choices.
After the first button is pushed, you have 4 choices of untouched buttons to push next.
Third time you have 3 choices.
Fourth, 2 choices.
Fifth time, only one option.

Edit: Sorry for the double post, board was moving a lot faster earlier.

You can press buttons more than once.

i believe its 15625 ways.
1) 5x5 = 25
2) 25x5 = 125
3) 125x5 = 625
4) 625x5 = 3125
5) 3125x5 = 15625
That's rubbish. You've done 5x5x5x5x5x5. (note the bold numbers)

You have 5 buttons, and 5 presses. So that's the equivalent of a combination lock, 5 reels, 5 numbers per reel.

5^5 if you're allowed repeats. 5! if you're not. 5 possible first button presses, 4 possible second etc.

You've changed the conditions now. Originally you said they were different buttons and since I've yet to hear a maximum of five presses, so I'll change my answer to infinite.

5^5 = 3125 is probably the answer to the question you mean to pose to us.

120, if you press all 5 buttons

Here's Why: 5 P 5= 120, or there are 120 permutations of 5 elements from a set of a 5 elements, or 5!= 120, or 5*4*3*2*1= 120 [N! only works if the numbers of elements in each permutation is equal to the number elements in the the set]
