Steam Sale Offers Solutions to Summer Perils

Valve wants you to know that summer is a dangerous time of the year. But you know what's not dangerous? Buying games at reduced prices.

Steam's seasonal sales lists always read like love letters to consumers. Steam has just announced its "Perils of Summer" sale and the message reads a little like something Dave Barry would write: "Play it safe. Stay inside. Save big."

Valve's message isn't complicated, and it's pretty funny when you stop and think about it. If the Discovery Channel has taught us anything, it's that the world can be a pretty scary place. It's particularly unpleasant during the summer, when our parents tried to make us run around outside in heinously hot weather. It's just better for everyone if we pick up some good games for cheap prices and stay inside where it's safe.

The sale is going from now until July 4th; below is the list of today's special deals and their new prices. Titles discounted for the sale are reduced 33-66% from their usual list price. Some of the bigger announced specials include (but aren't limited to) 75% off the 2K Complete Pack, 75% off Call of Duty Collection, 50% off THQ Complete Pack, 25% off Square Enix + Eidos Collection, 66% off all Atari games, 33% off all Ubisoft games, 66% off all Codemasters games, 33% off Valve Complete Pack, 25% off Rockstar Complete Pack, and 55% off Star Wars Collection.

On top of the usual sale deals, Valve is going to be selling games at insanely cheap prices in 24-hour deals. Today's list includes:

? Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City - $14.99 (reg $29.99)
? Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Old West - $5.10 (reg $14.99)
? Galcon Fusion - $2.50 (reg $9.99)
? Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000 - $1.25 (reg $4.99)
? Serious Sam HD: Double Pack - $7.50 (reg $29.99)
? Alpha Protocol - $33.49 (reg $49.99)
? Ghostbusters: The Video Game - $4.00 (reg $19.99)
? Resident Evil 5 - $12.50 (reg $49.99)

Well this sucks.
If my computer didn't hate Steam I'd be all over this sale, especially the Star Wars Collection.

Guess I should've gotten an earlier post...Feelin' kinda useless typing all this out.

Err...that was yesterday's deals. Todays are Serious Sam Double Pack, Resident Evil 5, and about 4 others.

Its a shame some people missed out on some of those deals though. Killing Floor was worth 20, but at 5 dollars? Thats just insane.

Edit: These are the deals for today, in case anyone is unable to look up Steam right now (did this to help anyone out, since these are today's deals).

? Alien versus Predator Classic 2000 - 75% off, $1.25 (reg. $4.99)
? Ghostbusters: The Videogame - 80% off, $4.00 (reg. $19.99)
? Resident Evil 5 - 75% off, $12.50 (reg. $50.00)
? Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West - 66% off, $5.10 (reg. $14.99)
? Serious Sam HD: Double Pack - 75% off, $7.50 (reg. $29.99)
? Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City - 50% off, $14.99 (reg. $29.99)
? Galcon Fusion - 75% off, $2.50 (reg. $9.99)
? Alpha Protocol - 33% off, $33.49 (reg. $49.99)

I'm personally interested in the THQ pack...thats an amazing deal. Metro 2033 alone is worth the 50 dollars...but since I already have it, I'm on the fence about getting that pack.

These daily deals though...Seriously thinking about picking up Resident Evil 5 again, simply because its so darn cheap.

(P.S. Figured I'd just help ya out.)

Edit again!:

Further snooping about shows that some of the games that were on sale yesterday still have sales...but not to the extent they were at yesterday. Here is an updated list.

? BioShock 2 - $29.99
? Trine - $19.99
? Killing Floor - $10.00 (reg $19.99)
? Aion -$39.99
? Colin McRae DiRT 2 - Available in Codemasters Racing pack for $23.79(reg $39.99)
? Overlord Complete Pack - $29.99 NOTE: Buying them individually will save you money
? Counter-Strike: Source - $13.39 (reg $19.99)
? Unreal Deal Pack - $39.99

Nice. Not any game I'd like to buy today though.
Are you guys gonna update this thread, or post the daily sales on the Escapist?

Steam must be getting pounded- the pages are loading slowly and it took me two attempts to snag Clive Barker's "Clive Barker's Jericho" (by Clive Barker) for a buck sixty-nine. I think I'm going to snag Resident Evil 5 as well; twelve and a half bucks is not at all a bad deal.

I bought two character packs for Killing Floor for 99 cents each.

Best.Sale.Ever.

Also, I got Cod 1, Cod 2, Cod: MW, Cod: WaW, and I believe Cod: United Offensive for about 21$

I believe that sale was $29.99. Still a really good deal if you've never gotten your hands on the first two. (I prefer the first and its expansion over all the others)

I'd pick up Resident Evil 5...I'm thinking about getting it again myself!

I hate you Valve. Goddammit I hate you so so so much tempting me with your sweet-ass deals right after I spend about 230 euros on shoes, clothes and Katamari Forever.

All CoD games for 28?! That's just criminal. Glad I haven't seen anything I really want though. Except for Star Trek Online but you need a credit card for that.

Yeah, I saw. Bought the Witcher Enhanced Edition for £3.75

I'll just check what's on sale no... feck, AvP Classic for 75p? that's less than most DLC!
That's less than a drink!

Just when things are going quiet from Valve's cult-love promotion department...

Dibs on that! I can play it later (I've got too many games now, really). I still haven't finished all the games I bought during the last Christmas Sale. Gods that was insane.

Indeed. I to have heard the Witcher's call.

And the Steam Sale was indeed insane. Thankfully I was poor then so I didn't spend much. But this summer... I already got the Witcher, and the Rome Total War complete pack, and probably going to get Jade Empire next...

NO! I must control myself!
